At Home With The Word

My church has a class or program or whatever you want to call it, called At Home With The Word. To my understanding, it’s a weekly class using a book by the same name. I think it’s a way to go over the upcoming readings in Mass, study them and prepare for Mass. It’s at a convenient time for me, and you don’t have to sign up for it. You can just come whenever you want to, which is good for me since I have so many anxiety problems. I bought the book from Amazon, used, and planned to go to my first class tonight and then I didn’t go. I used to be agoraphobic and still have problems going places sometimes.
Anyway, does anyone have this class at your church or heard of it? What did you think about it?

Established by the Archdiocese of Chicago in 1964, LTP promotes the liturgical formation of the faithful...." gives me cause for immediate concern. The Ordinary of the Archdiocese is Card. Blaise J. Cupich:
"Pope Francis appointed Cardinal Cupich to the Dicastery for Bishops in 2016, the Dicastery for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments in 2022, and the Dicastery for Culture and Education in 2024. Cardinal Cupich also serves on the USCCB Committee on Migration and the Subcommittee for the Church in Central and Eastern Europe. ..."

Chicago is a very dark place, a center of formation in deformation in Church history. The Church-related history of Chicago since Vatican II is a study in deep and dark troubles. See "A Wolf in Sheep's Clothing" - the central character, Saul Alinsky, and his book "Rules for Radicals", continue today to be of significant relevance in our Church and in our country.

A Wolf In Sheep's Clothing is a good video. Part 2 is graphic and disturbing though.

Are you sure of that? I ask that question because there are important issues in the Catholic Church that some pastors resolve in one way, which other pastors resolve a different way, and many - perhaps most - resolve by keeping quiet. Example: Can homosexual couples receive a blessing of the Church? The current Catechism is clear that homosexual relationships are "intrinsically disordered":

“homosexual acts are intrinsically disordered.” [CDF, Persona humana 8] They are contrary to the natural law. They close the sexual act to the gift of life. They do not proceed from a genuine affective and sexual complementarity. Under no circumstances can they be approved." CCC 2357

But some pastors openly declare that such teachings ought to be changed - Catholic News Service, March 31, 2022:

Munich Cardinal Reinhard Marx has called for a change in Catholic teaching on homosexuality, reported the German Catholic news agency KNA.
"The catechism is not set in stone. One may also question what it says," Marx told the weekly magazine Stern in an interview published March 31.
"Homosexuality is not a sin. It corresponds to a Christian attitude when two people, regardless of gender, stand up for each other, in joy and sorrow," he said. The value of love was also shown in "not making the other person an object, not using him or her or humiliating him or her."
Marx added: "LGBTQ+ people are part of creation and loved by God, and we are called upon to stand against discrimination." He also said, "Those who threaten homosexuals and anyone else with hell have understood nothing."

There are divisions in the Church today, unresolved. Your local parish of diocese may approve it, whereas another may disapprove it. And "the Church" can radically change when one pope is replaced by a different pope. "The Church" is in a period of great crisis - a dangerous one, and only God knows the immediate future. Our new pope may give strong and clear endorsement of the teachings and understandings of the current Cardinal Ordinary of the Archdiocese of Chicago - or he may strongly and clearly require the opposite. Or anything in between.

So are teachings on human sexual morality by LGBTQ+ proponents endorsed by the church, or are they heresies? Depends on who you ask?

There is much that is disturbing in the Church and in the world these days. Nevertheless, these are the days that God created us, personally, for and placed us specifically into. Oh God, come to our assistance; Lord make haste to help us!

It’s my understanding, and I could be wrong but I don’t think I am, that all books read for classes and programs at my church have to get the approval of our pastor.

There are divisions in the Church - some pastors will approve some things that other pastors will not. This is a very sad and difficult reality, but "on the other hand" - it proves the necessity of the Cross, for Jesus and for those who follow Him as His Body on earth.
