Thanks to the Reformed mvmnt and all that jazz my musical selection is now....not theological I'm listening to my music at work and one song grabbed me and bothered me and I listened to it again to actually hear it and there it was......Armin-e-end...."I chose You and now You chose me" Good grief! "now You chose me"

So G-d chooses me after I choose Him?

I feel like a former drinker/smoker who now sees the evil of their sins in everything.

I'm not alone in this am I?

It's normal. The mainstream Christchun music is not geared toward people who want an intellectual faith, but a more post-modern emotional faith. There are some good songs out there, but certain artists just don't appeal to me any longer. I'd rather hear a secular band who sings about what they are than some religious group singing about how they feel. Just wait till you notice the slogans on popular T-shirts "Jesus is my homeboy" "God is my co-pilot" and other gibberish.

It can get frustrating, but we must remember that any response we give should be loving. It is loving to explain why you prefer one song over another, but not loving to tell someone that their favorite tune is wishy-washy.

Croooz, i can totally relate! Up until I became convinced of the Doctrines of Grace, one praise and worship song was like another--but now, I'm pretty picky about what I listen too. I do like praise and worship still, but I've been particularly happy to hear groups and/or singers that focus on God and His Attributes and not us and our feelings, if you know what I mean.

Can totally relate...yessiree!!!!! LOL

amazing how "obvious" it seems when you finally "get it", huh????

Agreed!! I would rather drive 90 miles to see a secular concert than a Contemporary Christian concert 20 minutes away! As soon as I became Reformed I could no longer stomach the Christian Lite music that is so pervasive in mainline Christianity.

I can't believe how "Church folk" point to secular music's lyrics but then turn a blind eye to Christian. There are some I know who have a problem with Christian rock but Christian R&B is evil or vice versa.... :o

Now thanks to the evil teachings of the Reformers I'm stuck having to listen to the words and not just nodding my head to the music. I quit listening to secular music in my car and work and now I have to include music which pushes a Pelagian lie....grrrrrrrrr work, work, work.....

I need to find Reformed "approved" music.

There are some song here that are very reformed, but they don't seem to be as entertaining as those in the Dove awards. I enjoy Switchfoot, David Crowder, and some of the Newsboys songs. There is also an album (I think it's a series) called "Hymns: Ancient and Modern" that has some songs I sang as a child, but never understood. They are set in a more contemporary, or rather, less non-contemporary, format.

Any other ideas out there? I'm very interested in a similar list for the same reasons. As Calvinists who proclaim Soli Deo Gloria, there ought to be a wealth of musical choices!

I know I've mentioned this before - that the "Jars of Clay" band members are all members of the PCA. Lyrically their music is very reformed in doctrine.

The group "Sonic Flood" also seems to be on the mark lyrically.
