One day each year on the Day of Atonement ....
Leviticus 16:2 and the Lord said to Moses: “Tell Aaron your brother not to come at just any time into the Holy Place inside the veil, before the mercy seat which is on the ark, lest he die; for I will appear in the cloud above the mercy seat.
1 Chronicles 16:4 And he [David] appointed some of the Levites to minister before the ark of the Lord, to commemorate, to thank, and to praise the Lord God of Israel: 5 Asaph the chief, and next to him Zechariah, then Jeiel, Shemiramoth, Jehiel, Mattithiah, Eliab, Benaiah, and Obed-Edom: Jeiel with stringed instruments and harps, but Asaph made music with cymbals; 6 Benaiah and Jahaziel the priests regularly blew the trumpets before the ark of the covenant of God.
According to the law God gave Moses, the Ark of the Covenant was to be placed in the Most Holy place behind a veil and only the high priest was allowed to enter and only one time per year. David built a tabernacle, hired singers, and musicians and partied before the Ark. The two could hardly be more opposite.
1. It would seem reasonable that the Ark of the Covenant would be an extremely important part of the law. Why did God not rebuke David? It seems just the opposite since God said David was a man after His own heart.
2. The law God gave Moses had very detailed plans for the Tent of Meeting, where the Ark was housed. God never said anything about building a Temple. That was David's idea. Why did God not rebuke David for such a drastic change to "the law?"
Perhaps, there is a higher law? One where God values faith and the heart over the legal letter of the law? What do you think?
