  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Are they still saying this?

"Multiple pastors tell me, essentially, the same story about quoting the Sermon on the Mount, parenthetically, in their preaching—'turn the other cheek'—[and] to have someone come up after to say, 'Where did you get those liberal talking points?'" Moore said.

"When the pastor would say, 'I'm literally quoting Jesus Christ' ... The response would be, 'Yes, but that doesn't work anymore. That's weak," he added. "When we get to the point where the teachings of Jesus himself are seen as subversive to us, then we're in a crisis."

The people stopped or never started believing the word of Jesus by 300 a.d.

"When we get to the point where the teachings of Jesus himself are seen as subversive to us, then we're in a crisis."
The fleshy mind can't receive God's commands

It's only gotten billions of souls worse, in trouble, every day, every year, every decade, every century
as Jesus' Word is perfectly fulfilled.
i.e. "in a crisis" is devastatingly under-rated.

I see it online, but I haven't seen it in real life (yet).

I wonder though, which is more reflective of society's true nature... the opinions that people express to your face, or the opinions that they express online?

Has the internet done what Queen Elizabeth I desired not to do... create a window unto men's souls. Of all the demons that have ever been claimed to exist, is that the one that we truly need to fear... the one that's been living inside us all along, and that the anonymity of the internet has now set free? Are we just now seeing what God has always seen?

The question is, which is real and which is the facade... the face that people project in person, or the one that they project online? The goal of the church I should think, is to make people realize that how they behave in either environment is reflective of who they are.

Yes, definitely, we're just now seeing what God has always seen, with one important caveat - trolling. For example, if a person online expresses nasty racist sentiments, there are two possibilities: they could really believe those sentiments, or it could be they don't really care about race and are just engaging in some juvenile instinct to break a societal taboo because they think it's funny.

I also think that the internet provides a space for people who are, perhaps, isolated and alienated in real life to find others who share their ideas and build a sense of critical mass. Whereas when people start speaking like this in real life, I feel the ideas have reached more of a tipping point in terms of cultural saturation.

"Society's true nature" according to Jesus is death-dealing evil. No matter expressed here or there or anywhere.
