Its been a musical obsession since 1997 when I first started hearing Metalheadz, Prototype, etc. as well as people like 3D, Dara, and Phantom 45 here in the US. I'd agree with anyone that its seen better and worse times from then till now but to me at least its been some of the richest music I've encountered (and yes I'm excluding clownstep from that statement).
