Greetings,

I'm extremely sorry for not updating you all on what I experienced during my fast. First of all, I would like to thank everyone for theirs prayers because without them I don't think I could have made it. Before I begin I strongly recommend ANYONE who wants to try this to do so. You are reading this for a reason, God has put you hear to learn, and it's times like those that you have to say to God "Lord, I don't understand what it is you want me to do here, or learn but Father I want you to know that I am willing and though I'm not able to do it own my own, I know I can do it with Christ, do with me as you will" and guess what? HE WILL DO EXACTLY THAT! you may not think He will, but God works in ways that we can NEVER understand and or THINK. I'm often reminded of the verse that says "For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts"

God spoke to me on several occasions to reveal certain things to me in my fast. I was recently being discouraged because God had not answered a prayer of mind that was completely within his will that I had not recieved. During the fast the Lord brought up that petition. At first I was like, "What are you trying to say to me Lord?" then as I let my soul be quiet and take the time to LISTEN, He revealed it to me and this is what He said, "My son, as with the way of salvation, so is the way of prayer. You must first have your heart prepared, before you ask anything from me" I started crying as I felt the arms of God wrap around me and give me the biggest hug with the Holy Spirit I have felt in a long time.

You see, when men and women fasted in the Bible it was a way of afflicting their soul, to deny themselves,to prepare their hearts and to draw closer to God. To make themselves, completely humble, depended upon God, to make themselves hit "rock bottom". When we are at our weakest, we are at our strongest in Christ. When we have no one else to turn to except Christ, we are the most powerful human beings on this earth, because it's not that we are weak, but we are strong through Christ and that's what the relationship is all about.

I thank you all and I love you all so much. I greatly encourage you to fast for the Lord, don't let the thoughts of "What if I cant not eat the whole day?" discourage you. At least missing one meal is showing that you are sacrificing SOMETHING, ANYTHING!. And when that happens, God's works. "When man does all that is possible, God takes care of the impossible"

Grace of the Lord be to all of you,
Matt

Excellent.
It gets better as you begin to make the fast a part of your life. Many people say they "do not feel lead" to fast. That's unfortunate because they miss an amazing part of our Lord's character.

I am happy that you had an answer to your prayer.
Remember the trigger to your fast was your question about holiness.
This is where He is leading you so pay attention for the "still small voice". He will not force the issue - it is your choice to seek Him like this. ...So worth it.

Regarding sacrafice:
1. The fast cleanses you of spiritual filth. (Can't think of another way to put it right now.) So it is a little like taking a spiritual bath before meeting with the King. This is showing honor and respect for His Holiness.
In prayer, focus on honoring and respecting Him. Worship in this spiritual position is very fruitful. He really pours out His love when you are in this spiritual position.
2. You are being obedient to His Word. In prayer, focus on obedience. Humility. Pray on your face humility.
3. Hos 6:6 "For I desire mercy, not sacrafice. We all get a litte crabby and short tempered when we are hungry. Mercy and compassion are not always so easy during a fast. This becomes a weak spot that satan will exploit.
4. Remember to read Isaiah 58 (0ften) and really study the fast that God desires. Then remember that love is a verb. Go out and love people.
(That was for the benefit of other readers who might be considering a fast.)
I know already that you do and you have a wonderful servant's heart. It is so refreshing.

Peace C.A.L.B.

Wow! This is amazing. There truly is no such thing as coincidence. I just did my very first fast ever this morning!

I didn't eat from the time I got up (6:30 AM) to well after noon. It had to be about 2 PM that I ate or so.

I do not mention this to brag, but because I wanted to find people who were on a spiritual journey similar to mine, and who were discovering what fasting is about and what it could do! I am blessed by finding this, and I hope that the person who started this thread is blessed by all the replies that come in.

Bartimeus,

I am greatly touched by your reply to this thread, the Lord is defenately working in you. The truly is no such thing as coincidence, the Lord planned this moment before he even created the world! think about that! . . . I can sense that God wants to take you into a deeper relationship with Him because you are interested in Fasting and you felt compelled to start a fast. Look more into the fasting stuff, and search your Bible, ask God to teach you HIS way and not anyone else's.

I am greatly blessed by the Lord for all the posts that have come into this thread, I do not do this for my own Glory but for the one who deserves all the Glory. Our Gracious and Loving God.

Thank you all and may the hand of God be on you all,
Matt

Matt,
From what I have learned, I know I am starting slow. My plan, at this point, is to skip breakfast, then breakfast and lunch, and so on, every tuesday. If, God leads me, I may do two days, eventually, but it all depends on the guidance of God, you know?

Anyway, you're right, this isn't for my own glory. I am not dtalking about it to brag, but to get advice and insight because this is my first time. Can I get an amen?

Amen!

Please continue to share your experiences as you grow in this discipline. And let me know if things get particularly rough as you fast. I will keep you in prayer.

Thank you, I will certainly do that.
