  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Misspellings? They just copy-and-pasted "intelligent design" over wherever "Creationism" had been written. The substantive content remained the same.

the content is not the problem, they got dinged on the exact spots where they changed. Why change it if it can fly? Thats just a waste of time and money.

thats like saying that when we ammend the constitution, that all we have now it the exact same constitution. No, doesn't really work that way.

If all you do is swap out a few words, you haven't actually changed anything. If I take Huckleberry Finn and change every instance of Huck Finn's name to Roger Ebenstein, does that actually change the story of the book one bit? No. It's still the same book, only the character has a different name.

this is why dover was wrong, saying that ID was creationism, you would do well to read it.

Except an amendment adds to the Constitution and changes the content. Changing a specific word to another word that is synonymous but not as religious does not add to nor change the content of anything.

Right, and it doesn't change the essence of the law. Nor does changing 'creation' to 'intelligent design' change the religious essence of ID.

you missunderstand here. The writing is not creationism, it's ID. BUt in trying to prove the opposite they found a few instances where it was not. So they changed it.

I am totally unaware of any politically correct editing of the Constitution.

Do you have an example?

maybe not constitution, but state law as I quoted already in a link.

State law is hardly the same as the constitution.

My state just passed law that says all government documents and nouns have to be sexually neutral. That means no more "manhole covers". Seriously, it is a bit too much. States mess up on this order quite often. The Constitution of the U.S. is protected a bit better than that.

After having 5 or 6 people directly explain that the content in Of Pandas and People never changed beyond the name of the concepts, Gradyll still doesn't understand that the book contained, and still contains, religious content. What is so hard to understand?

It doesn't magically make content non-religious just because you call it something else.

And that's exactly what the judge ruled: ID is an inherently religious concept because it is a mere rebranding of creationism.

Why don't you understand that?

I would like to see someone do an experiment on atheist college students.

I propose the following experiment:

Have two science textbooks, both the same.

One class is issued the textbooks, but inside the front cover is:

Wherefore if ye be dead with Christ from the rudiments of the world, why, as though living in the world, are ye subject to ordinances?

The other class has no such verse.

My theory is that the class with the verse will be so suspicious of what is written therein, they will do poorly.

Why try it on atheists?

Atheist have a natural hate for the Bible; whereas scientists are trained to hate It.

In my opinion -- since I'm neither.
