During his election run, the current president appealed to "freedom of speech"
over and over again.

Now that he is president, he does not like to admit that freedom of speech
applies to anyone who disagrees with him.

I have asserted, many times, that the right of freedom of speech, must be
accompanied with accepting responsibility for whatever an individual speaks.
---------- ----------

For Christians, "You shall not lie" is an overarching moral-ethical rule. And,
we are responsible for the lies that we tell, because "there will be no liars
in the heavenly kingdom". Sure, someone may bear false witniess (lie) as they
wish, but they are responsible to God, for their own lying. There is no immunity,
for those who lie.

In a secular state like America, there is no immunity for those who speak an assertion,
that is a lie. BUT, what is determined to be a lie, is determined by the fair rule of law,
and NOT by any citizen asserting "What you are saying is a lie!". If someone thinks
that a person or insitution is putting out falsities, THEN their assertions should be
tried by due process under our fair rule of law, and not by some politician.

Although there is a trend that many of the instructos in many universities are
"not conservative" thinkers, many of the federal grants that the current president
is withholding from universities, have nothing to do with "leftist" or "conservative"
thinking.

This is an example of arbitrarily punishing universities, because they do not have
enough "conservative" teachers.

When a university accepts federal funding or is even accredited by some oversight form the government it should be expected that they do not harm any class/race/ethnic/sex etc. group of students. By harm, I mean create an environment where some students are bullied, threatened and in some cases impacted with violence. Excessive disruption should not be allowed in the classroom, and it should not be allowed on campus because it distracts from student learning. So peaceful protests are OK, but hurling slurs and taking over libraries is not. Free speech is never absolute. I do not see the Trump actions discriminating against universities for a lack of conservative thought. He is pressuring schools to stop hatred, violence and disruptions toward Jewish students. To me that is a worthy goal.

Freedom of speech is an illusion and no society allows all kinds of speech and expression without restriction. Nor should it.
Plus, if you are a commoner, it is extremely hard to have an audience. However, if you are wealthy you can buy an audience.

Freedom of speech is very different than freedom to say anything you wish to,
with a guarantee that you will not be prosecuted for what youever you say.

An example would be to swear in a courtroom to tell the truth... then be prosecuted for
lying under oath.

Some of he freedoms that we have under the fair rule of law in America,
are like this. Many of these freedoms are guaranteed, given that they do not
destroy other freedoms.

And this gets into a process of ejudication under the law, that balances the best
that we can do, when these different freedoms seem to be at odds with each other.
