Hello! I am planning on purchasing a notebook computer. I was going to upgrade our #2 desktop, however, it's quite old, running Windows Flintstone Beta. , and I could really make use of the portability of a notebook.

I do a lot of research on the internet, watch videos of lectures and such, and some light word processing.

I'm considering the following recertified notebook for $299.99:

ASUS K52 Series K52F-BBR5 NoteBook Intel Pentium P6100(2.00GHz) 15.6" 3GB Memory DDR3 1066 320GB HDD 5400rpm DVD Super Multi Intel HD Graphics

Also, I'm not clear on what I will need for accessory items.

"Rosewill RNX-EasyN400 Wireless-N Broadband Router (1T1R) IEEE 802.11b/g/n Up to 150Mbps Data Rates/ WPA Personal and Enterprise, WPA2, 64 & 128 bit WEP, PSK, TKIP, AES, WPS Security with 2 dBi fixed Antenna" (would like to support the Rosewill brand if possible)

and a "dongle" ??

One last thing, will Windows XP and Windows 7 communicate, as far as syncing?

Thanks in advance for any help, opinions, caveats, etc. Much appreciated.

For that particular model, the graphics card shares memory with the system RAM so I'm not sure if that might be a problem for videos.

I've only worked on one Asus netbook before and it ran really hot, as in burn-your-lap / I-wonder-if-the-bed-will-catch-fire hot. The system fans were also loud.

I'd recommend the Lenovo B575 if you want to stay around $300. Lenovo's are nicely built and the graphics processor on the new AMD budget processors are vastly superior to Intel processors, meaning that even if the processor is running at 100%, you'll be able to watch HD movies and youtube videos without multi-thread problems.

I can't post links yet but its available at Best Buy and haS 4GB RAM, and 320 GB Hard drive, so more ram than the one you were considering, and this one is brand new.

Amiga1200,

Thanks so much! I didn't think I could afford a Lenovo at present, but I will most certainly look into that this evening. Great information, it is much appreciated.

btw: I'm rather new here as well. I found out, by accident, that the various word game posts count toward your 50 post linking privilege, and will speed things up for you.

Welcome to Christian Forums!

God bless.
