HTS, I think just as are different levels of all understanding, whether we're talking football, golf, cars, ice cream, or Adventism so to it must be in discussing what a Messanic Jews believes.
We have a Messanic couple that enjoys our quarterly SS studies that visit our church on a regular basis and are a great addition to our SS studies Sabbath morning.
They believe in Adventist teaching and doctrine, including the IJ, the state of the dead and all major prophecies. The guy reads a Hebrew bible in class and has some absolutely fascinating takes on what scripture and Jesus was telling us in the OT.
I always get a charge when I see this guy and his wife at service and it never occured to me that they weren't Adventist until after a year or so.
I know of an other SDA who turned Messianic and what I found is that she is far more legalistic now than even some SDA's are.
She has gotten all wrapped up in the feasts and of course the Saviours name has to be pronounced just right, but be careful that you don't SPELL it out! Then it's the mixture of kosher and unkosher, but hey--she says she is FREER now than when an SDA and even closer to Yashua too. Personally, I think she's been duped, but thats just my opinion.
The other Messianics I know do not believe in the IJ, state of the dead or the SDA eschatology.
There are several ex-SDAs at my synagogue and many of them left for the SAME reasons I did, 1844 and the IJ.
I hear the Word ONLY preached at the synagogue I attend, whereas at my former SDA church it was almost always "Ellen White this and Ellen White that, and how wonderful it is to be an Adventist and how much better the Adventists are than everyone else" and VERY LITTLE of the Word.
But those are specific instances. I know messanics that believe similar to Adventists. Does that prove conclusively either side is "right?" Hardly.
The Levitical food laws
I left because the 1844 stuff is a lie based on a GROSS misinterpretation of Daniel 8:13-14(the TRUE fulfillment of that Scripture is found in the Channukah story) and the IJ is an unBiblical, Gospel-denying doctrine concocted to "cover up" Miller's 1844 error and try to rationalise it.
But don't get me wrong, Adventism is not all bad, there ARE good things in it.
Well, I am free of Ellen White and that means a lot to me.

What are those?
Where can I find the Hannakah story in the Bible?
That isn't too hard.
Lebesgue,
The messianic synagogue I went to with my friends, worshipped on Sabbath but they said that others worshipped on Sunday and basically each synagogue independantly decided how, why, and what to believe. Is that how they are organized and set in their beliefs?

The Levitcal food laws are clean and unclean foods. You don't eat pork or shrimp, right?
The Chanukkah story is found in the Apocrypha in the 1st and 2nd books of Maccabees. Although these books are NOT canon, they ARE considered hsitorically accurate and they show how Antiochus Epiphanes IV INDEED was the little horn.
He violently persecuted the Jewish people, forbade them to worship G-d and worship on Shabbat or have the Torah. He erected an altar to the false Greek god Zeus in the Sanctuary in the Temple in Jerusalem and SACRIFICED PORK TO IT!
Judah Maccabees and his followers overthrew Antiochus Epiphanes IV and cleansed the Sanctuary of the HORRIBLE filth the Selucid Greeks had polluted it with.
There is no such thing called "Levitical" laws unless those are describing the proceedures of the Levites in the sanctuary.
I believe what you are trying to communicate are "Mosaic laws." These laws applied to all the Children of Israel, not just to the Levites.
Odd, but I thought for sure, as a Messianic you would know this.
Yes, I knew that, I just wanted to hear you say that, "...not canon..."
Antiochus Epiphanes IV came nearly 300 years after the book of Daniel was written. How does the 2300 day timeline fit with his coming considering that 2300 days translated into roughtly 6.38 years?
And how does that fit with Daniel 8:13-14?
Mosaic food laws. I called them Levitical because they are found in the book of Leviticus.
On the other question I will have to ask my Rabbi and get back to you. You probably will make a "snide" commment about that answer but oh well I am going to be honest.

Yes, Red. There are differences amont different Messianic Synagogues. My synagogue does worship on Shabbat and even though the worship is Jewish style there are Pentacostal type elements there also. I like it very much and am really fed. They preach the Word and the Word ONLY.
The good things that were in Adventism helped pave the way for me to be where I am now. Even though I disagree with 1844, the IJ and state of the dead and Sunday Laws. I AM greatful for what the Adevntist church taught about tithing and Shabbat and clean and unclean foods.

There's nothing wrong with asking a spiritual leader for an answer.
To assume one already has all the answers is not only naive but dangerous.
"Rookie" mistake.
Why? Your Rabbi isn't responsible for what you should know about scripture, you are! You just said you disagree with the Adventist teaching in this area and claimed what you believe. Yet you cannot answer a basic question about what you believe without having to ask you Rabbi?
Odd.
Snide? No. Just curiously flabbergasted that you would tear one thing down (the IJ) only to state that you believe something that you don't know why you believe it.
I don't think there is anything wrong with admitting that I don't know everything.
I don't think so either.
I do think it odd in believing something that you have no firm grasp of though. Which seems to me to be a reason why you left the Adventist church.
I don't have the knoweldge of the Bible you have.
I was raised in a SECULAR home and then spent from my teen years until I was married at age 32 in Eastern Religions.
I didn't have "family devotions" every day growing up my parents were very secular. I got into Eastern religions as a teenager because that's what the hippies were doing and they were my "heroes".
I didn't have the luxury of being raised in a Christian home like you have. My parents were good people with good morals and they taught my brother and I to be good people and work hard but they were not churchgoers.
I am now finally learning the Bible at my Messianic Synagogue. For whatever reason I left the SDA church, I believe it was G-d's will for me to do so and I am where He wants me to be.
I am not a Bible scholar nor do I pretend to be. It's not my fault that I was raised in a secular home.

Lebesgue
