Lately I have heard a few messages on this subject and I thought it might be helpful to post a bit about the Temple in today's Christian walk.

Have you ever considered the purpose of the OT temple and it's construction and instructions for operation. The outer courts, inner courts (Holy place) and The Most Holy Place. Do you remember that a Priest would changed clothes, going from Holy parts into the outer courts where people were allowed to gather, this was to keep the clothes from becoming unclean. Guards were placed between courts to enforce the rules set down by God for His Holy place.

We are the Temple, the stone and mortar Temple has been replaced by you and me. The Veil separating the Holy and Most Holy pace was torn in two and Jesus made a new Temple in each of us.
2CO6:16 What agreement is there between the temple of God and idols? For we are the temple of the living God. As God has said: "I will live with them and walk among them, and I will be their God, and they will be my people."

How do we describe this new Temple?

Suppose it looked something like this:

Outer court: - A place in our minds that we allow non believers to be. We can witness, talk, even associate but understanding that we have a guard watching at all times. This area is useful because we know we don't have to accept anything we hear or see here. We hold the world at arms length in this place. We do our very best to keep out bad language, suggestive material, the worst of TV, radio, these type things but we have this special guarded place to protect our inner courts.

Inner court - This is a place of mind and heart. A place that we only allow Christian brothers and sisters. This is our connection to our church family. This is where we seek counsel, where we discuss important decisions about our lives, our families. And we have a special inner court for our family, our children and spouse. This is where we take our families in bible discussions, when we teach, when we pray together.

The Most Holy Place - This is our Hearts. This is kept clean by using our courts and the rules set by God to keep unclean things from our hearts. This is a clean place because we have guarded our hearts. In this special place, it's just you and God, this is your place of personal relationship.

We learn over time by guarding our outer court to keep our Temple clean. We allow the Holy Spirit to guide us in making decisions about what to see, what to hear, how to react and how to steer away from what is not clean. We learn how to keep out what is not clean, how to seek wise counsel from fellow Christians. It's all about construction.

We are a temple, the Bible will teach you how to build a temple. Spend some time in study and begin a life long work of building a Temple of God by allowing His word and the Holy Spirit to guide us.
