i have a question over a source that i doubt very many of you know of, but its been bugging me, and hopefully someone knowledgable on the subject will be able to help me.

Theres a book named Urantia...and i need help on whether or not its reliable or whether i should take in consideration its teachings. Is it false? Is it true? I dont know if i should even read for curiosity, becuz it says its supposed to be a in a way a book with corrections to the bible, making the bible seem weak on its reliability...which is oviously not good becuz the bible is so important in christianity. and i am a christian who really loves God and wants to follow God correctly...whatever that might be, so thats why this is important to me.so please help me if you can...thanks.

Hi babygrl ,

You pretty much answer your own question .

Stick with The Bible .

If you are thoroughly versed in Scripture , and have a good understanding of the " full counsel of God " , then you might want to read other books which claim to be inspired , so that you could measure their claim by Scripture .

But if you're still relatively new to studying the Bible , stay away from other writings about " God & Truth " , they will only bring conflicting notions which are bound to be confusing .

May God Be Pleased To Bless ,

Here are a few links showing how this is anti-christian and really new-age heresy.

The following quotes come from the last link above:

To summarize, it is a kind of space age Gnosticism claiming to update orthodox Christianity.

This book claims to be telling the truth, yet it condradicts the bible completely. And then they do not allow you to know who the author is...instead saying it was channelled from "higher intelligences". This was written only about 80 years or so ago. If it were true, it would allow a "peer review". The only reason a person would believe something like this book is if they were desiring to believe something...anything...besides God's word.

The following quote shows why this will never have a very good following...it is not very PC...

Some quotes from people that reviewed this book:

Earth is known as "URANTIA" to them and they say we would know everyhing in this book if our planet had not been isolated from the Universe Broadcast System due to a war that began on our planet half a million years ago.
If you are one who realizes that the "whole truth" doesn't exist in any book but that many books contain "the truth" then this book should intrigue you.
First of all, this book reads like the bible, feels like the bible, and has most of the bible's stories all mixed up!!!!
It diverges from Christianity in three doctrines: atonement, virgin birth and Adam & Eve as the first humans.

From this and other writings ont he book, it appears clear that this is another cult that is trying to reside under a Christian monicker. If you want answers, look to the Bible and to Christian leadership. Prayer and fellowship with your pastors and deacons will help more than this cultic book.

God bless you,
Dave

I once picked up Friedrich Nietsche's book "The Antichrist" out of curiosity. He is a powerful atheist philosopher and it threw me into a world of doubt. However, after several weeks of studying his philosophy piece by piece I realized that he was just an angry, foolish, and small minded man. It was a hard expierience to endure but it was one of my most profound as well. If you don't think you can handle it right now then put it down, but if you are looking to pick a fight with the devil then study it. But you have to understand that the devil is the real deal and he will twist you all up and may even throw you into a tailspin of doubt that is unrecoverable. It's called being lost in doubt and it is not a good place to be. However, if you overcome it with Jesus' help you take your faith to another level. So, if you do study it take it very seriously and pray on what you read.

If it "corrects" the bible...don't read it...the bible is correct in all things that are written, nothing else comes close...ignore that book called Urantia...you can PM me if you have any other questions about this book or books you want to know more about or want to read something good. I'm a book worm for sure, I'll help you out.
