  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Many do claim that God talks to them. Can you tell us how a person who believes in God knows in fact it is God who is talking and not their mind playing tricks on them?

First, the person has to believe God.

You do not believe. So you can't understand.

All Christians, all religious people, will agree: Something their God (gods) simply won't do.

Really? ALL religious people? ALL?

You've shot any remaining credibility you might have had in the foot. Not only have I known such Christians, I used to be such a Christian.

That is an intrinsic nature (or definition) of any god.

No, it really isn't. Gods are supernatural creators and/or orderers of the natural universe. There is nothing to prevent a god from influencing non-believers by either (super)nature or definition.

Cool, just saw the Sweden flag.

Ah, okay. I live in Sweden, though I'm actually an American. I moved to Sweden when I was in my mid-thirties.

OK, what else? Is that all a god is? The more you say, the worse situation you will be in.

Even no more than what you said, would that god make "disorder" since he is a orderer? If yes, why do you say he is a orderer?

If one is a god, then he will not do something. You are not a god, so you could do anything. Or, you may call yourself a god who would do anything. Or you have something you won't do, so you become a god.

No, that is essentially what a god is. It is what is shared by all god-concepts by definition, and allows us to recognize such beings as gods.

If I were to discover a previously unknown religion, and were to research that religion, that is the definition I would use to identify the gods that exist in that religion.

Even no more than what you said, would that god make "disorder" since he is a orderer?

No, and that doesn't even follow from what I had said.

If one is a god, then he will not do something. You are not a god, so you could do anything. Or, you may call yourself a god who would do anything. Or you have something you won't do, so you become a god.

You are not making any sense.

That is not my problem. I am not a biologist.

Well, it becomes a problem for you, when you make the claim below and can not back it up with evidence.

You can do an experiment: Put two identical twin (just born or even in the womb) in exactly the same environment for one day. Then test what have they learned from the environment.

I bet they learned different thing.

Can you explain why?

Didn't answer my question.

How does one who believes in God know when it is God talking to them and not their mind playing tricks on them?

Exactly who does the word "we" in the second sentence of the second paragraph refer to? Exactly how do these people know that love is a chemical reaction?

When discussing the biology of the brain, what evidence is there for options other than chemical (or electrochemical) reactions?

Neuroscientists in understanding how the brain works, record that when feeling the emotion "love" exhibit specific chemicals in the brain. One could then simulate this emotion by introducing those chemicals into the brain to determine if they are correlated or causally connected. Turns out to be causal in nature.

You do not understand how does science work.

Don't understand your comment but you still didn't answer my question directed at your comment in bold.

How would you go about determining what an infant (inside the womb or out) has learned from their environment?

You can do an experiment: Put two identical twin (just born or even in the womb) in exactly the same environment for one day. Then test what have they learned from the environment.

I bet they learned different thing.

Suppose I suspected that you were making this stuff up. Could you give a proper citation for your claim?
