1 John 1:1 That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, concerning the Word of life — 2 the life was manifested, and we have seen, and bear witness, and declare to you that eternal life which was with the Father and was manifested to us — 3 that which we have seen and heard we declare to you, that you also may have fellowship with us; and truly our fellowship is with the Father and with His Son Jesus Christ. 4 And these things we write to you that your joy may be full. NKJV

John is declaring that Jesus, the Son of God, came in the flesh to dispute a false teaching. Our fellowship is with the Father and Son Jesus the Christ.

1 John 1:5 This is the message which we have heard from Him and declare to you, that God is light and in Him is no darkness at all. 6 If we say that we have fellowship with Him, and walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. 7 But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin. NKJV

A Christian cannot walk in the darkness (sin) and claim to have fellowship with Jesus. Fellowship is communications with each other. God will be communicating with the Christian, but they are not heeding God's voice. Without 2-way communications, God will not bless them.

1 John 1:8 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. 9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 10 If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar, and His word is not in us. NKJV

Without the Christian heeding Jesus' voice, the Christian will not confess sins. Discipline will start. In Romans 7: 14 Paul wrote that he was sold under sin. In the flesh all humans are slaves to sin. Spiritually being slaves to sin means we are physically addicted to sin. What is sin? John defines sin later in the epistle.

Out of numerical order: 1 John 3:4 Whoever commits sin also commits lawlessness, and sin is lawlessness. 5 And you know that He was manifested to take away our sins, and in Him there is no sin. NKJV

Sin is lawlessness. Lawlessness is complete disregard for the law. By James 2:10 if anyone breaks one of God's laws they break them all. The law is one complete unit and breaking one-point breaks all of the law. Romans 6: 14 Paul writes that we are not under the law but under grace. Being under grace means that God does not impute sin to us. Romans 8 :10 God sees us through Jesus and He is dead. Romans 8:9-11 therefore, God considers us to be dead with Christ. We must remain dead, by staying in Jesus until we die. At that time God will resurrect us. If we resurrect ourselves before then, by losing faith, we will be in sin. To stay in Jesus, we must continue to have saving faith. Colossians 1: 4-5 our faith comes from our hope we have in Jesus.

Since we still sin in Christ, I will write csin for all sin that is not imputed to us because we are in Him.

1 John 2:1 My little children, these things I write to you, so that you may not csin. And if anyone csins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. 2 And He Himself is the propitiation for our csins, and not for ours only but also for (sins of) the whole world. NKJV

Jesus can advocate for all csins we commit. If we confess our csins God will forgive them. Csins are not violation of His commandment He gave us (1John 3:23 3rd paragraph below). They are disobedient children csins. Read Matthew 18:21-22 and Luke 17:3-4 to determine the limit of God's grace. Jesus is the propitiation for all sins of the world. The only sin the world will be guilty of is named in John 16: 8-9. That sin is not believing in Jesus.

1 John 2:3 Now by this we know that we know Him, if we keep His commandments. 4 He who says, "I know Him," and does not keep His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him. 5 But whoever keeps His word, truly the love of God is perfected in him. By this we know that we are in Him. 6 He who says he abides in Him ought himself also to walk just as He walked. NKJV

John tells us the commandment He gave us later in the epistle. If we keep His commandment we know Him. Knowing Him is a very important point. If we say we know Him and do not keep His commandment we are liars. The love God gave us is perfected in us by keeping His word. It's up to us to perfect the love He gave us. John is warning us to ensure our salvation.

Out of numerical order: 1 John 3: 22 And whatever we ask we receive from Him, because we keep His commandments and do those things that are pleasing in His sight. 23 And this is His commandment: that we should believe on the name of His Son Jesus Christ and love one another, as He gave us commandment. NKJV

We know Him if we obey His commandments. By John 10: 14 Jesus' sheep (the elect) know Him. John 10: 3-4 His sheep know His voice and follow Him. If we do not keep His commandment, we are not part of the elect. Remember, John is writing this epistle to a Church of believers. The church can have believers that eventually will not keep His commandment to believe in Him and love fellow Christians.

This is a good post but some things to consider.

You point to the commandment to believe in the name of the Lord, but many misinterpret what this means. It's not just to believe in His name but to be live and embody everything Jesus kept and taught for our example. 1 John 2:6

Jesus taught often on the Ten Commanemtns that was personally written by the finger of God Exo 32:16 Exo 31:18 saying not to break the least of these or teach others to, but yet so many Christians reject His teachings such as Mat 5:19-30 Mat 15:3-14 Mark 7:7-13 Mat 19:17-19 Mark 2:27 Isa 56:1-6. The commandments do not go undefined Exo 20 Exo 20:6 James 2:10-12 Mat 15:3-14 Mat 5:19-30 Rom 13:9, fulfilled (kept) by faith and love. 1 John 5:3 John 14:15 Exo 20:6 which reconciles Rev 22:14

It's unlikely any believer will disavow anything John says

What any given reader makes of it is always the question

It is very unlikely that the evil present within anyone actually cooperates with God in Christ. In fact I'd conclude that cooperation never happens and resistance always happens. Which is the general message of Romans 7, as this fact applied to Paul and the sin/evil present within him.

Anyone who thinks their whole enchilada is unspoiled in Christ just isn't looking at the scriptural facts very closely is all

Thank you Mr SabbathBlessings

I The word translated believe is not mistranslated. The scripture that you cited said that we ought to walk as He did. Ought means we should walk that way. Please do not get into arguing words. Thank you.

Thank you Mr BelieveItOarKnot

Thank you for your reply

To continue

1 John 2:7 Brethren, I write no new commandment to you, but an old commandment which you have had from the beginning. The old commandment is the word which you heard from the beginning. 8 Again, a new commandment I write to you, which thing is true in Him and in you, because the darkness is passing away, and the true light is already shining. 9 He who says he is in the light, and hates his brother, is in darkness until now. 10 He who loves his brother abides in the light, and there is no cause for stumbling in him. 11 But he who hates his brother is in darkness and walks in darkness, and does not know where he is going, because the darkness has blinded his eyes. NKJV

Love and faith are gifts of the Spirit they are not from us. According to Colossians 1: 3-5 scriptures love, and faith are a result of the hope we have in Jesus. Jesus gives us hope therefore, Jesus gives us love and faith. Jesus convicts us of csins after we enter His kingdom. Romans 7: 13-25 those with a spiritual mind will walk in the Spirit to put to death csins we are convicted of. If we are smart we will also increase our love and faith by doing works. We do good works to build up our love and faith and not for salvation.

1 John 2:12 I write to you, little children, Because your sins are forgiven you for His name's sake. 13 I write to you, fathers, Because you have known Him who is from the beginning. I write to you, young men, Because you have overcome the wicked one. I write to you, little children, because you have known the Father. 14 I have written to you, fathers, Because you have known Him who is from the beginning. I have written to you, young men, Because you are strong, and the word of God abides in you, And you have overcome the wicked one. NKJV

1 John 2:15 Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16 For all that is in the world — the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life — is not of the Father but is of the world. 17 And the world is passing away, and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides forever. NKJV

When we enter into salvation, we come out of the world but, most of us, still love the world. Once we enter the kingdom of God we should add to our love for His kingdom and lose love for the world. By 2Timothy 4: 8 and James 1: 12 our love for Jesus is important for us to have. The minute we enter the kingdom of God, He could take us to heaven. He leaves us here to be witness for Him and build His kingdom. In doing those two things we also are increasing our hope in Jesus, faith and love for Him. This process also sanctifies us. 1Corinthians 13: 13 now abide hope, faith and love; but the greatest of these is love. There is no hope and faith in heaven as we see our hope and faith. The love we have will last an eternity an continue to benefit God, others and ourselves.

To love the world more than Jesus or what He offers is one way to lose hope in Jesus and lose salvation.

1 John 2:18 Little children, it is the last hour; and as you have heard that the Antichrist is coming, even now many antichrists have come, by which we know that it is the last hour. 19 They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would have continued with us; but they went out that they might be made manifest, that none of them were of us. NKJV

This does not prove, as the OSAS crowd claim, that they never were saved. The verses just prior to this Christians were warned not to love the world. If you will notice it was in 1John 2: 3 that John started to weed out the elect from non-elect. If people fall away from the faith it proves they never were of the elect. Therefore, they never were truly one of us. If they were of the elect, they would have continued with the elect to the end.

1 John 2:20 But you have an anointing from the Holy One, and you know all things. 21 I have not written to you because you do not know the truth, but because you know it, and that no lie is of the truth. 22 Who is a liar but he who denies that Jesus is the Christ? He is antichrist who denies the Father and the Son. 23 Whoever denies the Son does not have the Father either; he who acknowledges the Son has the Father also. NKJV

Another way to lose salvation is to deny that Jesus saves you. There were plenty of legalist telling Christians they needed to do works for their salvation to help Jesus save them. If Jesus did not do everything necessary for salvation, He is not the savior of the world. Therefore, by doing works for salvation you are denying that Jesus is your savior. If he is not your savior, he cannot be the savior of the world.

The way one loses salvation is to lose hope in Jesus which will result in rejecting God's discipline. Hebrews 11:1 saving faith is the substance of our hope. The substance of our hope is Jesus. Ephesians 2: 8-9 we are saved by grace through faith. Without saving faith in Jesus we do not get grace.

1 John 2:24 Therefore let that abide in you which you heard from the beginning. If what you heard from the beginning abides in you, you also will abide in the Son and in the Father. 25 And this is the promise that He has promised us — eternal life. 26 These things I have written to you concerning those who try to deceive you. 27 But the anointing which you have received from Him abides in you, and you do not need that anyone teach you; but as the same anointing teaches you concerning all things, and is true, and is not a lie, and just as it has taught you, you will abide in Him. NKJV

Jesus is the savior of the world. You are under grace and your righteousness is not of works. Your righteousness is apart from works. That means your good works do not save you. It also means your bad works, csin, do not condemn you. There is no condemnation for those who believe in Jesus. No condemnation means there is no sin in Jesus.

1 John 2:28 And now, little children, abide in Him, that when He appears, we may have confidence and not be ashamed before Him at His coming. 29 If you know that He is righteous, you know that everyone who practices righteousness is born of Him. NKJV

In one sense, everyone in Him, is born from above, and practices righteousness because in Him there is no sin. Romans 8: 12-14 , sons of God, will practice righteousness by walking in the Spirit. Romans 7: 25 Paul with his mind served God's law, but in the flesh the law of sin. Romans 8: 6 the spiritual mind is life and peace. The spiritual mind knows God's laws are just, good and holy.

1 John 3:1 Behold what manner of love the Father has bestowed on us, that we should be called children of God! Therefore the world does not know us, because it did not know Him. 2 Beloved, now we are children of God; and it has not yet been revealed what we shall be, but we know that when He is revealed, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is. 3 And everyone who has this hope in Him purifies himself, just as He is pure. NKJV

John 1: 12 those who believe in His name He gave the right to become children of God. When we believe in Jesus we are born of the Spirit. We have the right to become children of God. John now introduces the terms being Children of God, born of Him and born of God to this epistle. Everything said in relation to those terms apply to those who keeps their hope in Jesus alive. They are the elect.

1 John 3:4 Whoever commits sin also commits lawlessness, and sin is lawlessness. 5 And you know that He was manifested to take away our sins, and in Him there is no sin. 6 Whoever abides in Him does not sin. Whoever sins has neither seen Him nor known Him. 7 Little children, let no one deceive you. He who practices righteousness is righteous, just as He is righteous. 8 He who sins is of the devil, for the devil has sinned from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil. 9 Whoever has been born of God does not sin, for His seed remains in him; and he cannot sin, because he has been born of God. NKJV

I commented on lawlessness earlier in this commentary. Verse 6 everyone in Him does not sin they only csin which is not imputed to them. If anyone that was in Him does commit a sin they have neither seen Him or known Him. John 10: 3-4, 14 I committed on knowing Him earlier in the commentary, all His sheep know Him. By John 17:24 all those the Father gave Jesus, the elect, have seen Jesus. Therefore, if anyone commits a sin after the have believed in Jesus, they are not the elect. They rejected discipline and did not exercise the right to become a child of God. Hebrews 12:3-8 anyone born of God has accepted God's discipline, because the person maintained their hope in Jesus. By keeping hope in Jesus they kept their saving faith and remained in Jesus. By remaining in Jesus, His seed, His Spirit, remained in them. Ephesians 1:13-14 His Spirit is their ticket to get into heaven. Hebrews 11: 1 it is also the evidence of things unseen in our faith.

1 John 3:10 In this the children of God and the children of the devil are manifest: Whoever does not practice righteousness is not of God, nor is he who does not love his brother. 11 For this is the message that you heard from the beginning, that we should love one another, 12 not as Cain who was of the wicked one and murdered his brother. And why did he murder him? Because his works were evil and his brother's righteous. 13 Do not marvel, my brethren, if the world hates you. 14 We know that we have passed from death to life, because we love the brethren. He who does not love his brother abides in death. 15 Whoever hates his brother is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life abiding in him. NKJV

Only those with a spiritual mind, the elect, will practice walking in the Spirit. We should strive to be worthy and not abuse His grace.

Diversion from 1John to explain more on csins?

1 Corinthians 6:7 Now therefore, it is already an utter failure for you that you go to law against one another. Why do you not rather accept wrong? Why do you not rather let yourselves be cheated? 8 No, you yourselves do wrong and cheat, and you do these things to your brethren! 9 Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, 10 nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God. 11 And such were some of you. But you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus and by the Spirit of our God. NKJV

Above is a list of some csins. All of those csins, and more, are not imputed in Jesus. As long as they remain in Jesus, they remain sinless, but are treated as a disobedient child.

Verse 9 and 10 the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God. All of these csins can lead to eternal death. There were Christians in the Corinth Church practicing those behaviors. If they loved worldly pleasures more than what Jesus offered, they would continue in csin until it became sin. They would not walk in the Spirit, and they refused discipline. Hebrews 11: 8 without discipline they became a illegitimate child.

Romans 8:12 Therefore, brethren, we are debtors — not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh. 13 For if you live according to the flesh you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live. 14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God. NKJV

Jesus will convict them of the behavior(s) He wants them to quit. He will take them to heaven if they accept discipline.

1 Corinthians 11:27 Therefore whoever eats this bread or drinks this cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord. 28 But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of the bread and drink of the cup. 29 For he who eats and drinks in an unworthy manner eats and drinks judgment to himself, not discerning the Lord's body. 30 For this reason many are weak and sick among you, and many sleep. 31 For if we would judge ourselves, we would not be judged. 32 But when we are judged, we are chastened by the Lord, that we may not be condemned with the world. NKJV

This discipline usually results in sickness. If they still do not work with the Spirit, this illness will result in physical death and their soul will go to heaven. They were led by the Spirit unto death. John 6:29 they did not work for their salvation except the work God required, believing in Jesus. Because csin is not imputed when they arrived in heaven no one knew they died as drunks.

1John 2:29 in the last post everyone born of God practices righteousness. Hopefully, most believers decide to walk in the Spirit to put to death the csins of the flesh. This will result in doing works. They will walk in the Spirit until the Spirit put the csin to death. The works they do are for sanctification and not salvation.

I struggled with a convicted csin for over 10 years. Finally, in desperation I cried out to God, “Am I really saved?” I had been taught you had to repent of your sins to be saved and that if one truly repented that the struggle wouldn't last long. So, for 10 years I was working for my salvation. Several times during the struggle I would become discouraged and quit the fight for a short time. After I cried out a thought passed through my mind, “But you love the brethren.” From that time, I no longer struggled with that csin. I have been tempted but have not submitted to the temptation. The Spirit put that sin to death.

Will any of you have to struggle 10 years? I hope not. All I can say is, keep up the fight, you are a son of God.

Mr. BelieveItOarKnot

I overlooked you comment about whole enchilada. I take it to mean that anyone who believe they are sinless are in error. You are right. The truth is everyone in Christ is sinless in God's eyes only because He says we are. Paul walked in the Spirit, and we can also.

To continue.

1 John 3:16 By this we know love, because He laid down His life for us. And we also ought to lay down our lives for the brethren. 17 But whoever has this world's goods, and sees his brother in need, and shuts up his heart from him, how does the love of God abide in him? NKJV

We know love, He abides in our heart. We need to use some of His love to grow our own love. In growing our love, we are laying up treasure in heaven. Laying up treasure in heaven increases our hope to get there. Increased hope means increased love and faith. We do not increase our love by saying “we love you” and walking by. We stop and help in whatever manner we can. In opening our heart and wallet to give, we are opening our heart to receive.

1 John 3:18 My little children, let us not love in word or in tongue, but in deed and in truth. 19 And by this we know that we are of the truth, and shall assure our hearts before Him. 20 For if our heart condemns us, God is greater than our heart, and knows all things. 21 Beloved, if our heart does not condemn us, we have confidence toward God. 22 And whatever we ask we receive from Him, because we keep His commandments and do those things that are pleasing in His sight. 23 And this is His commandment: that we should believe on the name of His Son Jesus Christ and love one another, as He gave us commandment. NKJV

We must first always keep His commandment to believe in Him and love our brethren. Then we strive to keep his commandments, the law, those He convicts us of, our heart will not condemn us. In doing that we are walking in the Spirit, and we are pleasing Him and will have confidence in prayer. Whatever we ask in prayer, in His will, He will answer.

1 John 3:24 Now he who keeps His commandments abides in Him, and He in him. And by this we know that He abides in us, by the Spirit whom He has given us. NKJV

To stay, abide, in Jesus and He in us we must continue to believe in Him and love the brethren. This is the only commandment required to live eternally in heaven.

1 John 4:1 Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God; because many false prophets have gone out into the world. 2 By this you know the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is of God, 3 and every spirit that does not confess that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is not of God. And this is the spirit of the Antichrist, which you have heard was coming, and is now already in the world. 4 You are of God, little children, and have overcome them, because He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world. 5 They are of the world. Therefore they speak as of the world, and the world hears them. 6 We are of God. He who knows God hears us; he who is not of God does not hear us. By this we know the spirit of truth and the spirit of error. NKJV

In the spiritual world there are only 2 different types of spirits. Holy spirits, angels or or the Spirits of God, from God and the spirits from Satan, demons. Only the Spirits of God and the angels confess that Jesus came in the flesh, lived a sinless life, died for the sins of the world and was resurrected to the right hand of God. If they have a different witness, they are demonic spirits.

1 John 4:7 Beloved, let us love one another, for love is of God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. 8 He who does not love does not know God, for God is love. 9 In this the love of God was manifested toward us, that God has sent His only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through Him. 10 In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins. 11 Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. NKJV

Legend is that when the apostle John was very old and feeble, he had to be carried to Christian worship services by believers from the church. His message was always the same: “Love the brethren.” Every Sunday, the same message. When asked why the same message, his reply was: “Because it is enough.”

1 John 4:12 No one has seen God at any time. If we love one another, God abides in us, and His love has been perfected in us. 13 By this we know that we abide in Him, and He in us, because He has given us of His Spirit. 14 And we have seen and testify that the Father has sent the Son as Savior of the world. 15 Whoever confesses that Jesus is the Son of God, God abides in him, and he in God. 16 And we have known and believed the love that God has for us. God is love, and he who abides in love abides in God, and God in him. NKJV

Verse 12 if we love one another, Christians loving Christians, then God abides in us because His love has been perfected in us by our deeds of love for the brethren and our neighbors.

We know that we abide in Him and He in us because we continue to believe in Him as having died for our sins and being resurrected for our justification. We must never start to believe that we have any righteousness without Jesus. Our righteousness is complete in Jesus without any help from us. Our works are done in obedience to Christ to further His kingdom and for His glory. They also increase our faith, hope and love and help sanctify us for greater works.

Just sharing something I’ve been mulling over. God’s love is never ending and surrounds us.
Ps 19:7-11
The testimony of the Lord is sure, making cfwise the simple;

The commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes;

The judgments of the Lord are true and righteous altogether.

Yea, than much fine gold;

Sweeter also than honey and the 6honeycomb.

And in keeping them there is great reward.

7 The law of the Lord is perfect,
refreshing the soul.
The statutes of the Lord are trustworthy,
making wise the simple.
8The precepts of the Lord are right,
giving joy to the heart.
The commands of the Lord are radiant,
giving light to the eyes.
9The fear of the Lord is pure,
enduring forever.
The decrees of the Lord are firm,
and all of them are righteous.

10They are more precious than gold,
than much pure gold;
they are sweeter than honey,
than honey from the honeycomb.
11By them your servant is warned;

in keeping them there is great reward.
Reading Ps 119 I wondered what the purpose of laws, precepts, rules, commands & statutes were so strongly emphasised. I remembered reading Ps 19 a seeing some similarities values that I had not recognised in Ps 119.

My understandings is that the bible in all it’s complexity is to lead us the Jesus. All those laws, precepts, rules, commands & statutes were parameters a strong wall in which we can be safe from the evil one/sin

Thank you for your reply. We should all try to obey the law as a good witness and to give glory to Jesus. Matthew 7: 26-27 If we are not walking in the Spirit. obeying the voice of Jesus, we have a good chance of failing during a trial. If we listen to Jesus, He will not put us in danger. If we are doing His will, He will keep us from harm.

1 John 4:17 Love has been perfected among us in this: that we may have boldness in the day of judgment; because as He is, so are we in this world. 18 There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love. 19 We love Him because He first loved us.20 If someone says, "I love God," and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen, how can he love God whom he has not seen? 21 And this commandment we have from Him: that he who loves God must love his brother also. NKJV

Verse 17 everyone in Jesus is as righteous as Jesus is in this world. Therefore, His love is perfected in us and we will not fear His coming. Those who believe in Jesus love God and love the brethren. Verse 20b “how can he love God whom he has not seen?” John 17: 24 the elect has seen God therefore they can and do love the brethren, who are the body of Christ. If you do not love the brethren then you have not seen God, Christ, and are not of those given to Jesus by the Father.

1 John 5:1 Whoever believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God, and everyone who loves Him who begot also loves him who is begotten of Him. 2 By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and keep His commandments. 3 For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments. And His commandments are not burdensome. 4 For whatever is born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world — our faith. 5 Who is he who overcomes the world, but he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God? NKJV

Verse 1 whoever continues to believe that Jesus is the Christ is born of God. We show our love for God by walking in the Spirit, keeping the commandments He convicts us of. His commandments are not burdensome because through the Spirit we put to death sins of the flesh. Only those who continue to believe that Jesus is the Son of God, the savior of the world, will overcome the world.

1 John 5:6 This is He who came by water and blood — Jesus Christ; not only by water, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit who bears witness, because the Spirit is truth. 7 For there are three that bear witness in heaven: the Father, the Word, and the Holy Spirit; and these three are one. 8 And there are three that bear witness on earth: the Spirit, the water, and the blood; and these three agree as one. NKJV

Jesus is the Son of God, who was born in the flesh of a woman, died on the cross for the sins of the world and was resurrected for our justification. The water, human birth, testifies that he came in the flesh. The blood, that He shed on the cross testifies to His physical death. Declared to be the Son of God by Spirit of holiness by His resurrection from the dead.

1 John 5:9 If we receive the witness of men, the witness of God is greater; for this is the witness of God which He has testified of His Son. 10 He who believes in the Son of God has the witness in himself; he who does not believe God has made Him a liar, because he has not believed the testimony that God has given of His Son. 11 And this is the testimony: that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. 12 He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life. 13 These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life, and that you may continue to believe in the name of the Son of God. NKJV

When we believe in Jesus, we receive the Spirit of Jesus which is our guarantee to enter into heaven and eternal life. Exodus 12: 21-23 just as in the first Passover, the Israelis had to remain under the blood until the angel of death passed over, we too must remain under the blood until the angel of death passes over, or the rapture occurs.

1 John 5:14 Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. 15 And if we know that He hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we have asked of Him.

16 If anyone sees his brother sinning a
csin which does not lead to death, he will ask, and He will give him life for those who commit csin not leading to death. There is sin leading to death. I do not say that he should pray about that. 17 All unrighteousness is sin, and there is sin not leading to death. NKJV

Verse 16 the csin does lead to death because intercessory prayer will cause God to give the csinner life. The csinner is not walking in the Spirit and his death is physical death. The sin into death is a sin into eternal death. The sin, notice no c, is because the person has rejected discipline and lost salvation. We do not pray about it because intercessory prayer will not get a person, or keep a person, in Jesus.

1 John 5:18 We know that whoever is born of God does not sin; but he who has been born of God keeps himself, and the wicked one does not touch him. 19 We know that we are of God, and the whole world lies under the sway of the wicked one. 20 And we know that the Son of God has come and has given us an understanding, that we may know Him who is true; and we are in Him who is true, in His Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God and eternal life. 21 Little children, keep yourselves from idols. Amen. NKJV

Verse 18 whoever is born of God does not sin. They do csin all the time. Most Christians will choose to walk in the Spirit and put to death the csins of the flesh. Romans 8: 13-14 those who walk in the Spirit are sons of God. Jesus will convict them of their csins and with His help the sons of God will put to death those csins. 2 Timothy 2: 13 because these sins are a physical addiction some Christians do not have enough faith to face withdrawal, Jesus cannot deny Himself, He will kill the flesh thereby putting to death the sin.

I must correct a wrong statement in post at number 5.

I need to clarify on my testimony about walking in the Spirit. First sanctification will be more than a 10-year struggle. Sanctification is a lifetime process. What I meant to say was: I hope that you do not have to wait 10 years to get proof of through the Spirit putting to death a sin of the flesh proving that you are walking in the Spirit. God wants us to know that we are saved.

My problem was I had not submitted to the Spirit. To do this we have to admit that our salvation is entirely the work of God. As I stated, I was working for my salvation trying to prove that I had really repented. When we believe in Jesus, we are repenting of the only sin needed to be repented of, which is not believing God.

John 3:31 He who comes from above is above all; he who is of the earth is earthly and speaks of the earth. He who comes from heaven is above all. 32 And what He has seen and heard, that He testifies; and no one receives His testimony. 33 He who has received His testimony has certified that God is true. NKJV

When we believe in Jesus, we are repenting of the only sin needed to be repented of, which is not believing God.

Acts 20:21 testifying to Jews, and also to Greeks, repentance toward God and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ. NKJV

You have repented toward God certifying to His truthfulness. If you believe in Jesus, the Son of God, and that He has done all the work necessary for you to be saved then you placed your faith in Jesus. That was my mistake I did not put my faith in Jesus alone. I thought I had to prove that I had repented before I could be saved by Him. So, I was working for 10 years to prove to Him I was worthy to be saved. If I had not cried out in desperation I might have continued working for salvation and lost it.

Please do not misunderstand, when I say repentance is not necessary for one to be saved. If you are aware of your sins, repentance is called for as long as you understand that you are doing so to please Him, not for salvation. However, faith in Jesus is a must have. If we have placed our faith in Him, we will submit to His convictions in one of two ways. We will start walking in the Spirit or we will let Jesus put us to death. Both ways are putting to death the sins of the flesh. The second way is the fastest for sanctification but the least beneficial way for Jesus and for our eternity.

The way I came to Jesus is different than most. I had as a boy of 8 or 9 walked the aisle and received baptism. Needless to say, I had no idea what it was all about. I went to church with my parents but as soon as I was on my own, I went the way of the world. In my mid-forties I started my spiritual search. I began reading the bible while attending AA meetings. I believe it was during this time that I was saved as I was convicted to tithe which I did by giving to Christian charities. I was also convicted to start attending church. I walked the aisle again and was baptized. Then began the false teaching. I learned that I needed to repent of my sins to be saved. I continued to read His word, but I believed the experts, preachers and teachers. During this time, I was selected to be a deacon. To be ordained as a beacon I had to state my support for the church's doctrines, one of which was repentance of sins in addition to believing in Jesus for salvation.

After I cried out to God, He began to teach me from His word again. When his word diverged from what I was taught I prayed for guidance and continued reading in the hopes that other scriptures would correct my wrong understanding. My continued reading only revealed more support for what I believed and further divergence from the Church's doctrine. I finally submitted to what His word taught me. I changed denominations sought a church that agreed with my beliefs. I have not found any.

I have found a few individuals that believe as I do. I have recently found a preacher, in a homeless shelter, and we seem to agree in important doctrine. Maybe that will be my new church.

I hope I have stated this correctly.

God bless to all on your spiritual journey.
