  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Exodus 3:

Ellicott's:

This expression, here used for the first time, was already, it is probable, a proverbial one, denoting generally, richness and fertility.
Benson:

A proverbial expression: abounding with the choicest fruits, both for necessity and delight.
Barnes:

Keil and Delitzsch:

Milk and honey are the simplest and choicest productions of a land abounding in grass and flowers, and were found in Palestine in great abundance even when it was in a desolate condition.
The phrase was used to describe exceptional abundance and blessing. While Canaan was fertile, especially compared to the surrounding desert, the phrase was a metaphor and a hyperbole.

When I look at modern-day Palestine, it seems like all the pictures I see our desert. It is hard to imagine it being considered a land of “milk and honey“. But historians also talk about the fertile crescent, which includes this area. I don’t think it is considered to be a fertile crescent today. Perhaps the climate was different back then and it was in fact a more lush land??
