  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

A divinely missed appointment?

So there I was, walking around a sunny high street this Saturday past, enjoying the sun and local market.

Then out of the corner of the eye I see them- two cheerful and friendly Mormon missionaries, eagerly wanting to tell people their message.

When one of them asks me my beliefs, I tell him I'm Reformed, and he instantly looks discouraged . He then asks if I know about their beliefs and I say I do, he then makes his excuses and wishes me a good day.

But as I am walking in a park an idea occurs to me- I have some Ray Comfort Gospel tracts in my wallet- I will ask them for some leaflets and in exchange I will give them a Gospel tract.

I go back to the high street, go up and down and lo and behold the Mormons are not there anymore.

In my flesh I was ofcourse tempted to feel this was a 'missed appointment' but we know God's hand is sovereign, even in this.

So what was his purpose in this? Many things are possibilities- maybe I was not the right Christian to give them the Gospel and this was just a start to sow seeds, maybe God is using this incident to increase my zeal for evangelism, maybe it was for this article for me to write about, etc.

And now I know what to do when I see a JW stand or an Islamic Dawah stand, etc.

Would love to know your thoughts!

Sometimes we are so eager to look to benefit, we do not see how we benefited. Rejoice you know the True Gospel. Surely the Lord is guarding you.
Thankyou so much, I think the purpose of this encounter was to sow a seed to increase my passion for evangelism!
