  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

A conversation about unity.

I'm not going to make excuses for any of the Charismatic type faith groups. I will say that our particular Assemblies of GOD denominational group does not have any of that sort of uproar happening, and this is most likely because we are an actual denomination with very specific rules laid down that we have to follow, and people over us do check in on us from time to time.

If people don't structure things carefully they will get a free for all situation.

Yep.

The new "Christian" leadership that is coming out of the colleges is completely tainted with that woke junk, and there are just too many people that are seemingly unaware of how these so-called "trained" Christians are trying their hardest to get directly in leadership positions to act out their fleshly personal beliefs they learned in those places.

They are not weeding these people out like they should be.

That's an interesting mix.

I agree with Tampa Steve, easy appeals to most of society who feel it is about them and they are entitled.

I don't see easy or hard in such a situation. I do see differences in what truth is preached,... in what truth is followed and promoted. I also see differences in rulesets and leadership styles.

For me, I wouldn't find what I need spiritually going to a more traditionalist type church and trying to drudge my way through old hymns and liturgy, and a gospel that most likely is not completely bible based. I like the more contemporary type songs I hear on the radio being played in our church. I also like lifting my hands in prayer when The Holy Spirit prompts me.

But I also like discipline in church settings.

That's a very valid point, many of the Evangelical churches here have a cycle of boom and bust depending on the decade due to the preacher, some imploding entirely when their main pastor dies or retires. The current church that I attend (former UMC, now independent) other than the RCC has had the same pastor since the 1990s and he is a strong personality. He is 60 now, so he has a few years left, but there is almost certainly going to be a crisis among the congregants that are in their 30s and older when he leaves. The youth will likely not be affected too much.

MOD HAT ON

This thread is permanently closed for multiple rule violations.

Mostly the usual goading and flaming against denominations and members, with doses of Disruptive Behavior as people and this thread are being complained about.

While this forum is in a unique position to host a discussion on church unity and it is allowed to discuss the subject here, a future thread will need to focus more on discussing theological differences for the goal of reconciliation as opposed to attacking groups. It will need to adhere better to addressing the post and not the poster. I do think we can do it, but for now, I bid this thread a sad bon voyage. Try again, my brothers and sisters in Christ. Try again.
