• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

That's because they're in the middle of it, they are hardly disinterested, and probably, frankly, have never bothered to step back and make the comparison.

So nothing you said had to do with the high school, but with the policies of nearby universities.

You do realize that most public high schools are not partnered with nearby universities, right?

And so you further identify that your son's high school is different from most other high schools, and thus his experience is not representative.

This is another post full of false assumptions.

This is another post full of false assumptions.

I have teachers in my family. My wife, in fact, is a teacher, specializing in deaf and hard of hearing (she got called to translate for a Clinton speech when we were stationed in Hawaii--because she had already been vetted through my own security clearance).

The teachers in your family are not representative of all in the profession & the ones I spoke to could not have disagreed with you more strongly. I think a lot of teachers would deem your arguments to be erroneous.

The teachers you've talked to are no more "representative of all in the profession" than the teachers in my family.

But you might do better to interview teachers who are nearing the ends of long teaching careers about the differences in the "hallway cultural environment" of their early years compared to the hallway cultural environment today.

Moreover, I haven't actually been talking about teachers, I've been talking about the cultural environment, of which teachers are merely part-time inhabitants, and not particularly in charge of its shape.
