Yes, your god, but not, I submit, God.

What you have done is take God and made Him into an ogre with special creation.

Thinking God designed all creatures individually and poofed them into existence works well as long as you don't really look at creation.  When you do start looking at nature you see some very nasty, cruel designs.  You make God directly responsible for them.  I claim God is not responsible.

Let's take just two examples. The first is the digger wasp. Wonderful design that allows the female to track grasshoppers in flight and control her own flight so that she can intercept them in mid-flight and the incredible design that allows her to insert her egg into the grasshopper in the short time of that flight.  Wonderful design, right?

Yet what happens to that egg? It hatches inside the grasshopper and proceeds to eat it alive from the inside out. Exactly like the movie Alien.  Now, your god is the cruel god that designed the digger wasp and let this happen to grasshoppers down the centuries.

The second example is the rabbit.  Cute, furry, cuddly, and kept as pets by humans.  Hind legs to jump and escape predators and ears to hear the predators coming.  The rabbit eats grass and other plants, whose major component is cellulose.  Yet the rabbit doesn't have an enzyme to break down cellulose to digestable components.  Instead, your god has seen fit to put the cellulase enzyme in bacteria living in the large intesting of the rabbit. Not in the rabbit's pancreas, but in a parasite.  So the bacteria breaks down the cellulose in the large intestine, where the rabbit can't absorb the products. Both the nutrients and the bacteria are excreted in the feces.  So what happens? The rabbit is forced to eat its own feces to recover the nutrients and the bacteria.  (BTW, another great design in the bacteria to allow it to survive the trip to thru the stomach and small intestine back to the large intestine.)   Nice god you have made, Crusader.  A god that forces rabbits to eat their own feces in order to survive and not starve.  A god made in your image, perhaps?

A major reason that Christians abandoned creationism and accepted evolution is that creationism makes God be sadistic, stupid, and suffering from Alzheimer's.  Since Christians realized God wasn't like that, then it was obvious that creationism was wrong.  Christians realized quickly that having natural selection be the secondary cause by which God creates got God off a really bad hook that the 6-day creationists had put Him on.  Now God didn't directly make the bad designs, natural selection did.  Instead, God made natural selection and used it as a way to create the diversity of life on the planet.

I know this isn't quite on topic, so don't pull the pin and blow up on me here, but we all know the evolutionary theory has some gaps, and some inconsistancies. Scientists from both sides of the issue have gone over it time and time again and remain deadlocked. So, my question is, given the current facts, would you change is teaching in public schools?

lucaspa,
did you read genesis? because if you did which i will asume you did. you would have seen where after every day of creation he said it was Good. and when he was completly done everything was Very Good. so when did those evil wasps and poor rabbits come? well after the curse of course silly. when adam sinned, not when god went on an ego trip and decided to be cruel and make evil wasps and flies

Can you provide scripture to back up your claim that animals changed after the curse.

Crusader and Follower of Christ, you speak of trusting God instead of fallible men. Men are fallible, but I trust scientists to examine God's world. I do not believe the early parts of Genesis are literal truth, but allegory.

Evolution, like all science, is constantly changing. Although it is extremely unlikely, it could be proven false tomorrow. Science is just that; hypothesis' can change, and theories critically examined to provide the most up-to-date knowledge. This is not so for Creation Science. Creation scientists choose a particular "absolute truth" and desperately try to find evidence for it.

I believe faith should be based on reason, not blindly believing the dogma you are taught. God has created an awsome universe. Let's learn the truth behind it.

Nice post. Can I point out that Biblical interpretations are also the work of fallible men, and those interpretations have also been revised through history. So when literalists speak of "trusting God" what they mean is trusting Biblical literalists -- men (I haven't seen any women Creation Scientists).

Now, since God created the universe, that means that scientists are also trusting God -- trusting that His Creation is really from Him and therefore will honestly tell us how He created. For some reason, Creation Scientists don't trust God to have really created. I've never been able to figure that out.

And good for you that believes that faith is based on reason! Atheists like William Provine say that theists have to check their brains at the door, but I've never seen why this has to be so. Augustine, Aquinas, Calvin, Darwin, Dobzhansky, Miller, and Ruse certainly haven't, just to name a few. Their faith came thru examination by reason just fine.
