I made a post on my Facebook about it today but I didn't go down to PP like I wanted.

A few weeks ago, my little sister found out she was pregnant with her third child. She's been separated from her husband for over a year, the baby's father is a guy she was seeing for a couple months (though he's actually happy about it and wants to ensure he has custody rights), it's really hard for her living on State assistance even with the decent job she has. She had brought up the idea of abortion with me early on and I just reminded her of what our mother has gone through, feeling guilty for her choice (actually more her parents' choice) to have an abortion as a teenager, and of watching women go through with this, holding them as they broke down after it happened. She went to the Pregnancy Resource Center and got some ultrasounds. She's excited even though this is going to be very hard.

It's one thing to say, "I'm pro-choice" but I think as my generation has more and more abortions, we realize just what it does to women. Our psyches aren't built to undergo something like that. "Choice" is such an abstract thing, abortion is so real. The more women and children that can be saved through our prayers and through our efforts at establishing real material and emotional support for pregnant women, especially scared young single high school and college age women, the more we can see a truly pro-woman culture develop.

LONDON, UK, September 24. 2010 (LifeSiteNews.com) – Prior to the papal visit to England, the 40 Days for Life campaign team in London wrote to the pope, and has now received a letter in response from his office.
Monsignor Peter B. Wells, responding for the Holy Father, wrote that the pope "appreciates the sentiments which prompted you to write to him about your work."

One good way to activate the 40 days for life world wide is to make it coincide with the Eastern Orthodox Nativity Fast which starts on November 15 and lasts until the Feast of the Nativity. The only problem is that the majority of Orthodox Christians are on the old calendar so that there would be a 13 day discrepancy.

Ugh. Can we ever get together.

singing
Let's get together. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
We could have a lot of fun.

I was reading in an old family heirloom, an old Catholic book (if I can find it) that Catholics used to observe 40 days before Christmas as a fast just like the Orthodox. I think that Nativity or Advent fast was abolished in the USA before 1870. Anyone have any information on that?

i don't have specific info but as far as i know, we still observe the 40 days of advent. theoretically it would be nice to have the 40 days for life campaign coincide exactly with advent and lent but practically it wouldn't work well for peoples who live up north like in Canada... way tooo cccccccold

we're only in September and it's quite rainy. i didn't think it was that cold today but while holding the sign my hand was getting quite cold. i noticed the guy next to me had gloves. i'll make sure to wear some next time too. i'm still quite happy that i was able to make time for the vigil today, hopefully i'll be able to go many more times

The stories of babies saved thanks to the presence of 40 Days for Life volunteers are starting to pour in. For instance, in Birminghma, two women rejected abortions on the first day of the campaign. Full Story
