Zion's Song

Tuesday, January 19, 2010, 3:08 p.m. – This song is playing in my mind:

Come Let’s Worship / Newsong

Come let’s worship Him
Celebrate Christ the King,
The Mighty One
Come let’s worship Him
Oh, give thanks to the Lord,
Great things He has done.
Worship Him.

We sing the song of Zion
And lift our hands in praise
In Joyful adoration
Our voices we will raise
And come before His presence
All in one accord
Giving Him the glory
Proclaiming He is Lord!

Feel His Holy Spirit
Know His power through prayer
Hear the sweet surrender
Of hearts touched by His care
Holy is His presence
Awesome is His name
Jesus, our Redeemer
Forever He will reign!

Come let’s worship Him
Celebrate Christ the King,
The Mighty One
Come let’s worship Him
Oh, give thanks to the Lord,
Great things He has done.
Worship Him.

Speak, Lord, for your servant is listening. I read Hebrews 6:13-7:28:

My Understanding: I was on my way into the living room to fold clean clothes that were in 2 laundry baskets when that song began playing in my mind. I have songs in my head a lot, but sometimes they just jump out at me and I sense the Holy Spirit prompting me that he has a specific message for me through this song. So, I looked it up, recorded the lyrics and then I prayerfully considered the song before the Lord.

I know that sometimes I get so busy during my day that I need to be reminded to just be still before the Lord, to reflect upon his goodness to me and to praise him. Frequently the Lord reminds me to celebrate him in song or in praise and thanksgiving. I think sometimes we take God and his many blessings to us for granted. So, I began to thank the Lord in prayer for all those blessings of family, good health, home, food, income, provisions, possessions (though temporary), joy, laughter, music, friendship, fellowship, and His grace, mercy and forgiveness, etc.

This passage of scripture begins by telling us of that reason we have to celebrate and that is Jesus Christ. He is our hope that we have taken hold of. “We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure.” That is real important to know as so many of the things and people of this world in which we often place our hope are not all that firm or secure – marriages, relationships, jobs, income, careers, homes, vehicles, the government, the institutional church, church leaders, etc. We can not put our hope in any of these to the point to where we think they will never disappoint us or that they will always be there for us. Only God – Father, Son and Holy Spirit – can offer us that kind of hope and security.

That is definitely seen in this passage of scripture, in particularly beginning in v. 23 where it states that there have been many human priests who have died, and death has prevented them from continuing in office. Yet, Jesus Christ did not stay dead. He rose again and he ascended into heaven and he is alive and is there interceding for us to God the Father on our behalf. And, he alone is able to save completely those who come to God through him. Amen! He sacrificed himself for our sins once for all.

Because of who He is and because of all He has done for us, we should come into His presence daily and we should worship Him. We should celebrate Him every day of our lives, not just on religious holidays. And, we should daily give him thanks. I admit that I need to be reminded to do that sometimes. And, we should sing songs of joyful adoration to our Lord Jesus Christ, giving Him the glory, proclaiming He is Lord! It is so easy to get bogged down by the cares of this world and by all the things we have to do each day. We can often forget to stop and to give Him praise. I know that I have been guilty of that, even though he wakes me each morning with a song in my head. I pray the Lord never stops reminding me to stop, to listen, to be thankful, to praise him, to give him glory, and to proclaim that Jesus Christ is Lord!
