You can use all the right ingredients in your theology, but it can still be off the mark.

One of them, an expert in the law, tested him with this question: “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?”
.
Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.” (Matthew 22:35-39)
.
And the "expert" in the law accepted his answer. (Mark 12:28-34)
.
So say you like the law, the law gives you a sense of divine purpose and really is the main thing for you, then your foundation to every application is in Matthew 22:37-40. If the basis of the application does not result in Matthew 22:37-40, then the scripture may be right, your ideology may have redeeming qualities, but it misses the mark with what Jesus taught about what is the greatest teaching in the law. If you wish to be greatest in the kingdom of heaven, consider the foundation, clean the inside of the cup first, so the rest of the cup will be made clean also. (Matthew 23:25-26)
.
So say you like to listen to prophets or like to think of yourself as one, or don't believe prophets exist anymore but think people need to hang on your every word, well guess what? The same applies. And if you really really really want people such as myself to listen to what you have to say, your messages need to have a certain "character" that at the bare minimum exhibits being a tree with the root of Matthew 22:37-40, because by their fruit you will know if prophets are the ones God sent, or the ones that God did not send. (Matthew 7:16-21, James 3:11-18)
.
Since Jesus expounded on what the greatest teachings in the bible are, and the expert in the law back in the day did not disagree with his assessment, you may wish to pay attention to this passage when interpreting biblical passages or living life in general. Hope you all had a Merry Christmas and have a Happy New year.
