Most humans, including Christians, have trouble getting past themselves. They need to get back to what they were before the fall.. a being basically unaware of it's body and self and more in tune with it's true nature.
Anyone who loves all as self, no matter who in this world, is already practicing what is required. It's called being a kind, gentle person. One doesn't have to be a Christian to be saved, just someone who willingly puts God's will ahead of their own. Its all He ever asked. A new creation would stop seeing themselves as flesh, becoming unaware like before the fall, and instead see themselves as who they really are, sons and daughters of the Father.
