What does it mean to be consecrated?

This was first published on Facebook April 2, 2007

I've realized that I should renew this idea of pursuing consecration in my life.

Yesterday, April 1, began a 2 month period I have set aside to be consecrated unto the Lord and His work. I don't know entirely what this means, yet. I've been dedicated to God for a long time, now. I desire to serve him with all my heart and I trust Him to accomplish this good work. But, what does it mean to be separate yourself in order to be made holy by the Lord, to allow him to purify your heart and renew your mind?

I know that Christ's blood has covered our sin and allowed us to be seen as righteous in the eyes of God, and that we should be pure of heart and renew our minds daily. But what would happen if we truly offered ourselves up as living sacrifices? What if we laid down before God on his altar in the Holy of Holies and died to ourselves, allowing Him to bring life to our natural bodies through His Holy Spirit?

I am compelled to find this out. I want to be purified by God's holy fire. I want to be in that constant communion where, truly, nothing matters to me but the will of my Father, where the first words out of my mouth are, "Yes, Lord, whatever you ask of me, here I am."

And so, I begin this journey of consecration. Pray for me that the Lord will give me the ears to hear, the eyes to see, the mind to understand, and the heart to accept what He wants to show me. I'll try keep everyone updated on this. Feel free to leave comments or encouragement. Be blessed and may the love of Christ transform us.
