Psalm 84
4 Happy are the people who live at your Temple;
they are always praising you.
Selah
5 Happy are those whose strength comes from you,
who want to travel to Jerusalem.
6 As they pass through the Valley of Baca,
they make it like a spring.
The autumn rains fill it with pools of water.
7 The people get stronger as they go,
and everyone meets with God in Jerusalem.
I play on the Varsity Basketball team at my 1st-12th grade school. We were terrible. We lost EVERY SINGLE GAME!!! As our conference Tournament came up, we were all, including our coach, expecting the worst.
Our team was in the Valley of Baca. Do you know what that is? It is a place where people go in time of suffering.
The Autumn rains are like tears.
But notice, verse six says, "as THEY pass throught the Valley of Baca," they meaning you don't go to that place alone; they meaning you go with friends; they meaning you go with Jesus.
In the game of the tournament, we played our hardest, still expecting the worst. Our opponents were glad to play us, expecting and easy win. But we put up a fight. We played for Christ, knowing there was no other way we might even possibly have a chance at winning. Guess what? Our best was good enough! We won the first round of the tournament, and we were going on to play in the Chamionship game! (You: Already?? Me:Keep in mind, our Conference is pretty small)
Now, the Championship game was against the Number One team in our conference. They weren't afraid, they also were expecting an easy win. We were expecting a loss, thinking our last game was a fluke. Nevertheless, we played with Jesus in our hearts and on our minds.
It was the most intense game of our lives. We fought harder than we ever have before. we ran faster than we ever have before. We did it all in the Name of Jesus. Jesus is real. This is why I know that for sure:
We came away from that tournament with pretty much our first two conference wins. You know what else? We were the Champions. We ARE THE CHAMPIONS!!!! We DID not win that game, it wasn't us. It was God.
" 6 As they pass through the Valley of Baca,
they make it like a spring.
The autumn rains fill it with pools of water.
7 The people get stronger as they go,
and everyone meets with God in Jerusalem."
He didn't let us go alone, He went with us. We saw Him at the end of our path.
"Jesus looked at them and said, 'For people this is impossible, but for God all things are possible.'" Matt 19:26
If God can work miracles for the world's worst basketball team, He can do them for you, too. All it takes is faith...
