Like rags covered in putrid mud
Beats selfishness within
Nothing righteous nothing good
But hearts full festering sin
From Adam, still this stench remains
From which, God turns His face
So each must suffer toil and pains
Without the state of grace
What can we do, what can we say?
Why have such things to be?
What can one find to take away?
The evil God can see
“If man to Christ would bend the knee
Surrender and obey
Would choose to keep each royal decree
Heaven still gives today
Like Ancient Days we fail the same
Man’s ways, stink Heaven high
But if we’d trust in Jesus’ name
One’s soul would never die
Those who submit to Heaven’s powers
Let Christ their soul refine
Saying God’s righteousness is ours
Through He who’s love’s divine
Man’s heart; the will of God should learn
Till eyes no more are blind
Then worms within would surely turn
The life’s Truth to find
For surely death would lose its sting
Life’s pain would then depart
Heaven would hear glad voices sing
