'God bless you Sir.' Is quite often the reply I receive when I give something to the numerous unfortunate homeless near where I live, be it some money, or some cheesy chips or a chicken burger from a take-away I have frequented for about a decade now.
It is probably a turn of phrase, a few of those whom I have stopped and talked with have occasionally displayed faith, but more often than not the people feel abandoned, and I hope through spending some time just listening that I have helped them.
They say that you reap what you sow, but as someone from an Armed Forces background I am also more than aware that sometimes what people from the outside looking in see as a choice, is actually a lack of options for those being looked upon.
I hope that you also share in the desire to give to thee people, if not materially then perhaps the far more precious resource of your limited time. Because what I want to do is to perhaps show a little light in their life, perhaps restore a little faith in their fellow man and perhaps The Lord who's name they invoke in thanks.
So read with me
2Cor 8:1-5 (ESV)
We want you to know, brothers, about the grace of God that has been given among the churches of Macedonia, for in a severe test of affliction, their abundance of joy and their extreme poverty have overflowed in a wealth of generosity on their part. For they gave according to their means, as I can testify, and beyond their means, of their own accord, begging us earnestly for the favor of taking part in the relief of the saints— and this, not as we expected, but they gave themselves first to the Lord and then by the will of God to us.
So, who is playing the part of the Macedonians... Me who is giving gladly Nd at each opportunity, but within my means? Or the poor homeless who have given all they can?
