"Now the mind of the flesh [which is sense and reason without the Holy Spirit] is death [death that comprises all the miseries arising from sin, both here and hereafter]. But the mind of the [Holy] Spirit is life and [soul] peace [both now and forever]. [That is] because the mind of the flesh [with its carnal thoughts and purposes] is hostile to God, for it does not submit itself to God's Law; indeed it cannot. So then those who are living the life of the flesh [catering to the appetites and impulses of their carnal nature] cannot please or satisfy God, or be acceptable to Him." (Romans 8:6-8 AMPC)
The mind of the flesh is not neutral as far as God's commandments are concerned. It is actually in opposition against God. When you lead your life by human reasonings and thoughts, you are an enemy of God. You are dead to God now and in eternity. But you may ask "what concerns God with my life?" The truth is He gave you that life of yours and He demands that you serve Him with it. All souls belong to Him! You belong to God. He owns you and if you are living your life outside Him, you are rebellious and deserve to be punished. The natural human mind cannot please God. In fact, it seeks and executes ideas that are in opposition to God. It does not submit to God in anything, it actually does not have the capacity to do so.
When you are always catering for the appetites and impulses of your natural self, you cannot please or makes God happy. It becomes impossible for you to satisfy God. Indeed, He will not accept you or anything you do. Your entirety is unacceptable to Him. You are offensive to Him because the life of flesh is full of pride. God resists the proud but gives more grace to the humble.
However, when you accept Jesus as your Lord and Saviour, you will be born anew. The Holy Spirit will dwell in you thereby helping you to please God in everything. You will then be alive to God and His peace will reign in your heart now and in eternity.
ACTION PLAN: Return to God today and stop living the life of flesh, He is waiting for you.
PRAYER: Oh Lord, I return to you today, deliver me from the power of human nature and grant me the Holy Spirit.
