Sunday school memories can be remembered as some of the best times of are lives. All the fun arts and crafts and the fellowship of children are own age. I always remember making everybody laugh. Then after class we would all run out and play on the grass. Rolling around and having fun with friends and family. But I never once thought that it could actually be a burden for the teacher to come up with fun activities and lessons every week.
Looking back I guess I was a bit selfish in my thoughts. Now I know and understand how hard it can be for a teacher. Maybe it's just me, but I think that children now days are different then when I was a child. With so much stuff going on at home now days it's hard to break children away from that kind of excitement. I know that some days my kids don't even want to go to church, because of all the fun stuff they have at home.
So what is the solution to making Sunday school fun? Is it the teacher or the lessons?
The lessons have to be fun in order for the kids to get involved.
At the same point teachers have to be fun and patient. All while delivering a solid message about God. But if children's parents don't get involved then what good is the lesson. I would be curious to know the percentage of parents that even ask their kids what it is they learned in class.
Allot of Sunday school teachers have a hard time coming up with lessons. Seeing that most of them have families of their own and also jobs. With such a busy schedule it's hard to find the time to create a new and fun lesson every week. Most people have trouble even finding time to read the bible.
So what is the possible effect of all this on the teacher.
So why not change all that?
Why not simplify your Sunday school lessons, and at the same time keep the fun going. All the while getting a solid message out to the children. A message that will stick with them long after they leave the classroom. Also get the parents involved and make sure that they have the heart of what the message is as well. Why not have a system? A plan of attack so to speak.
Every thing worth doing is worth doing right.
