Scholars4Jesus
My husband never knew that I escaped the possible life of drugs, street peddling and prostitution because of my scholarships.
My husband was always aware that it was the scholarships that allowed me to get my education from elementary school to my college years at the University of the Philippines in Diliman, Quezon City.
I would always express to my husband the gratitude I felt to those that helped me as I shared my dreams of how I would someday help other children.
“I never knew!” He said out loud, with a look of shock on his face.
“What?” I said. Fearing the answer would somehow change our world.
And my husband’s answer did change our world forever…
He said, “Living in America, I always took for granted that education was free and available to every child. Then I learned that in the Philippines, poor families that can barely put food on the table are left with the choice of eating or giving their children an education.”
He continued by saying, “What a painful and horrible decision that is for a parent! Knowing that by choosing life they will condemn their children to a dark bleak future of poverty.”
My Husband held my hand, looked into my eyes and said,
“We will make your dreams of helping children come true”
“We will give children Scholarships and a chance at a new life”
“4 in the name of Jesus all things are possible”
And that is how Scholars4Jesus was born -
To give new life, to a dying generation of children.
