So a co-worker suggested that I open up a "shop" on Etsy. I'm not a fan of selling pre-made rosaries online due to the fact that it's very difficult to sell such rosaries in the first place.
For example whenever I scour the many "handmade rosaries" on ebay, I see many great rosaries that people make. But...I never see a SINGLE bid on these handmade rosaries, which are available at reasonable prices. Which at least, has made me refrain from selling any handmade rosaries at least on ebay. I find that people are far more obsessed with antique/vintage rosaries then they are with buying new ones. I find that odd, to be honest.
So as an experiment, I am going to take this fellow co-worker up on his challenge. He suggested I just go out, buy a bunch of "cheap" materials (which generally, are not "cheap"), and proceed to making several rosaries to which I will actually try to sell on Etsy.
I have gathered some different materials which are not very generally interesting for me but for the casual observers, would suffice. This includes dyed mineral beads as well as some cheap natural stone beads. I'm only a fan of glass if they are chatoyant or visually comforting to view.
So for those who maybe are looking for rosaries but don't care about the materials being used, please consider visiting me online when I actually "open up shop" (I will post my Etsy contact info here when I actually start selling pre-made rosaries) or send me a private message here on CF. I will not pay any attention to those posters who just joined, but rather regular members who post on a daily or weekly basis.
Please note that I am far more interested in taking commissions, because this means I can create a rosary which will be unique and special to the individual.
I am hoping that I don't sound like an advertisement on TV; please note that the rosaries I create and post photographs of in my thread are NOT for sale. These are "special" rosaries that I enjoy making for myself or perhaps as gifts to others. Rosary-making is a dying art that needs to be revived, and I post pictures of my rosaries to get those who may know little about the Catholic faith, to look further into just exactly what a rosary is. These rosaries are meant to help in evangelization and to develop a deeper respect for this long-held Catholic devotion.
I look forward to seeing if this experiment has some success.
