As all those things which have been the backdrop to a great portion of our lives now gradually disappear and the world becomes increasingly unfamiliar or uncomfortable and geared to a new generation, it could be seen as comparable to attending one's own funeral each time another piece of familiarity disappears.
But on the bright side, most of these events were not of our own vision but borrowed moments in time. They are not who we are but who someone else was and we attached ourselves to those events, allowing them to influence us. But is that who we really are? Though we may be better or worse for them, we as individuals are still alive with the possibilities that coincide with who we ourselves are, based upon the ideals of our individual natures; not those of the influences with which we surround ourselves. The world insists we follow it's lead. God tells us we should not. How can the blind of the world gain sight of the Kingdom by following the blind of the world?
Can the world be a reflection of each of us? Perhaps. Can we be a reflection of the world? Hopefully not, but that is more often than not the case. Can we be examples to the world of a way alien to it's traditions? Absolutely. There is still time as it ain't over here in this life until it's over. Jesus' revolution brought the world an alien way of life, a counter-culture to the traditional ways of mankind, a revelation. Cannot we follow suit rather than mirror our world which is in itself a counter-culture to the Kingdom. We may have dual citizenship but are allowed loyalty to only one culture of the two. Which will you let influence you? Do you have the nerve to be a revolutionary towards this world of man?
