Pluralism Sunday

Pluralism Sunday is coming up on the first sunday in May (for 2010 that would be the 2nd of May). It's an event / day sponsored by the CPC (The Center for Progressive Christianity). I myself am a part of a church affiliated with TCPC so I'm personally looking forward to May 2 as Pluralism Sunday.

Pluralism tends to be this big scary concept in Christian faith, but it is really one of great importance to a small group of us, who believe Pluralism is not only important but integral to a loving Christian faith.. Pluralism is the concept that my religion is good for me, and your religion is good for you, and that there's nothing wrong with that.
It's natural, normal, and good; not evil. It's a celebration of religious diversity and all of the positive things it brings.

Rev. Jim Burklo really outlined it well in an interview he did with TCPC for the purpose of defining Pluralism for Pluralism Sunday, you can find that interview here.

Also, from the Pluralism Sunday website, the concept of the day is as follows:
On the first Sunday in May- this year, May 2, 2010 – (or other times during the year) churches around the world dedicate their worship to a celebration of our interfaith world. Progressive Christians thank God for religious diversity! We don’t claim that our religion is superior to all others. We recognize that other religions can be as good for others as ours is for us. We can grow closer to God and deeper in compassion—and we can understand our own traditions better—through a more intimate awareness of the world’s religions. On PLURALISM SUNDAY, churches celebrate elements of other world faiths in their sermons, litanies, and music; many feature speakers and singers from other faith traditions. Some congregations have exchanges with other faith communities, going to each other’s houses of worship.
Now, I know not all of you necessarily term yourselves "Progressive Christians".. but I do. So I just wanted to share this forthcoming date (all be it months away yet, but TCPC was drawing attention it quite early this year so it was brought to my attention as well) with everyone as a really amazing opportunity for so many congregations and people out there in whatever forms they choose to recognize the day.

Mind you, true love and tolerance and celebration of religious diversity cannot and should not be limited to only one day on a calendar. However, every cause needs at least ONE day, I suppose

I just wanted to take a moment to bring this kind of thing to your attention, and you can of course take it for what it's worth, or leave it behind and never think of it again.
