Whether in religion or the world, once people put themselves in a box, the only thing left to do is lash out at everything outside the box. Why? Because they have backed themselves into a corner and rather than associating freely with others, they become defensive. Self wins out over selflessness and the Adversary smiles. Suddenly everything outside the self made box becomes evil and they fail to see the evil within. Simple.
