"Pilate therefore said unto him, Art thou a king then? Jesus answered, Thou sayest that I am a king. To this end was I born, and for this cause came I into the world, that I should bear witness unto the truth. Every one that is of the truth heareth my voice.Pilate saith unto him, What is truth? And when he had said this, he went out again unto the Jews, and saith unto them, I find in him no fault at all."
- John 18:37-38
We see that Jesus came to witness unto the truth and that those who are of the truth hear the voice of Jesus. Pilate asked what is truth? This response from Pilate indicates that He knew Jesus was not only speaking the truth but, that Jesus is the Truth:
"Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me."
- John 14:6
Throughout the gospels Jesus preaches about light and darkness many times but, what is so significant about these two forces? Can we ascertain what truth is from observing their natures? Yes absolutely! Light and Darkness were separated from each other by God:
"And God said, Let there be light: and there was light. And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness. And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day."
- Genesis 1:1-5
We see that God does not want Light and Darkness to be mixed. So what did Jesus mean about those believing in Him are of the Truth?
"He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God."
- John 3:18-21
Light and Darkness are opposed to each other because those in darkness are evil and do not wish to step into the Light for their deeds to be revealed. Jesus makes it clear how we will be condemned and why: for not believing that He is the Son of God the only begotten. We see that Light and Darkness are connected to good and evil so, what else are they connected to?
"And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not."
- John 1:5
Light = Comphrehension
Darkness = No comprehension
"The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light. But if thine eye be evil, thy whole body shall be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in thee be darkness, how great is that darkness!"
- Matthew 6:22-23
We see that Light and Darkness affect our physical and spiritual vision but, can it affect our life and death?
"The people which sat in darkness saw great light; and to them which sat in the region and shadow of death light is sprung up."
- Matthew 4:16
Light = Life = Truth
Darkness = Death = Falsehood
If we could sum this evidence up we come to the conclusion that to go against the Truth is to go against Jesus but, to go against Darkness is to go against Satan: therefore the Truth contradicts others but not itself; Falsehood contradicts others and itself. The life of Jesus shows us that He preached the whole Bible and lived the whole Bible, not parts that He liked or believed would gain Him popularity. Let us follow His example when preaching to the world even sensitive or tough subjects. And let us not rely on our own understanding but, pray to be given the wisdom and understanding from God in order to preach His whole truth and not be ashamed to do so. For our reward in heaven is great for those who stand up for truth and oppose falsehood: eternal life and happiness in the cool lake from the City of God. Woe to those opposed to truth for their punishment is great: eternal death and pain in the lake which burns with fire.
