So, I mingle on a Christian Forum every once in a while, and the last time I logged on, a topic was being discussed in the Marriage section. The topic was Submission. The points made in this thread started me thinking, thus, this post.
A woman came on and began to talk about the passages in the Bible that talk about wives submitting to their husbands, only her view was skewed. She said that while men are commanded to love their wives, wives are not only not commanded to "agape love" their husbands, they are also not commanded to submit to their husbands. Wives are meant to govern their husbands, as men can easily abuse wives who are submissive.
This woman's thoughts birthed my own on the subject. Let us look back before the feministic movement, and see how women in America were treated:
-Men bowed and tipped their hats as women walked by.
-Men opened the doors for them.
-Men laid their jackets on the ground if it was muddy, so a woman wouldn't dirty her shoes.
-Men stood when a woman walked into a room.
-Men stood if a woman left the table.
-Men kissed their hands upon introduction.
Now my question is, how on earth are these things seen as "making a woman inferior"? I understand if it's not your thing and you want to open the door yourself, but if a man offers, it's not because he believes you incapable. If anything, men did those things as a sign of female superiority!
So now, in this age, we have come to the extreme opposite, and then some. Not only is a man degrading a woman by opening a door for her, but men are now viewed as less than human beings! Always wrong. Any problem in a marriage is now all the husbands fault. Any problem a woman has, must be because of a man. This country almost always takes the side of the woman. So much so that it has effected women in the church. No wonder there's such a high divorce rate in this country! We have emasculated the male population of this country to the point of their God given position in marriage being trampled on.
And yes, some women were abused back then. But women are abused now, too. The only difference is that now men are being verbally abused and manipulated. So it's not like women are perfect little angels that just get hurt all the time. We are emotionally vicious creatures, and sometimes, are even worse than men. So, really, what have we accomplished with this whole "female superiority" junk?
Now, I am very for women being treated as equal to men. We should vote, we're citizens of this country, we should be able to work, make money, run for office, go to college, and make something of ourselves. However, I have a major problem with women making men out to be the lesser sex. Because, frankly, both sexes have very serious problems. It's called humanity. We all equally suck.
I am in, no way, trying to downplay the abuse that women go through. I know women who have been, and continue to be abused, and it makes me sick. But women abusing men, because men have abused women, makes me sick too. There is no excuse for any person, regardless of race or gender, to oppress or abuse another person. But this emasculation of men ticks me off.
