Discouragement Blog

"Who comforts (consoles and encourages) us in every trouble (calamity and affliction), so that we may also be able to comfort (console and encourage) those who are in any kind of trouble or distress, with the comfort (consolation and encouragement) with which we ourselves are comforted (consoled and encouraged) by God."
II Corinthians 1:4
This week I was tempted to feel discouraged. This scripture has always comforted, because I know that God will console me during these times of discouragement. When I feel low, I have to remember that it is only a feeling, and that everything I go through is for a reason. Once I understand this concept, I am able to get out of my discouragement and begin to encourage myself and others.
This week was a time I had to use this scripture. There were several incidences that left me feeling drained. First, Brenton and I found out that we will have to replace our outside air conditioning and heating unit. This will cost us at least $1,800.00. At this time, we are trying to pay off debt, so we don't have that kind of money.
Second, we found out that our regular mechanic cannot fix Brenton's power steering. The car will have to go to the dealership. In addition to the power steering being gone, he also needs the brakes fixed, and the tires replaced before it will pass inspection this month. This plus my car getting inspected all costs money during the Thanksgiving holiday. It seems like every time we turn around, we need to spend more money to fix something important. We definitely need our heater this winter and our cars to get from place to place.
Third, my daughter's dog, Shirley, stepped on glass and cut through two small arteries. This meant she had to go through emergency surgery to stop the bleeding. We also have to take her to the vet weekly to check on the wound. She's stayed inside a lot these past two weeks, and she loves to dump and go through our garbage. Of course, this adds to the stress of trying to keep the house clean.
Fourth, I have dealt with chronic body pain and migraines this week. It is really hard to get things done when you don't feel good. By Sunday afternoon, I was unable to do any work that I needed to complete for Monday, and I was not able to complete my blog for this week on time. This was discouraging and made me feel depressed.
