"That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, of the Word of life;" (1 John 1:1 KJV)
Discipleship, in itself, is not the same as discipleship class or attending church meetings. Rather, these are tools to enhance your discipleship. Discipleship is the process of following Jesus with the intention of becoming like Him. Anyone that will become trainable in discipleship must first be born again.
There are two components of discipleship that must go hand in hand. They are:
(1) RELATIONSHIP WITH JESUS: A born again child of God must maintain a cordial and progressive relationship with the Master. Your fellowship with Jesus in prayer and the study of God's word(with the intention of applying it to your life), must become increasingly cordial.
(2) RELATIONSHIP WITH HUMAN DISCIPLER: It is also necessary for you to have a relationship with a Christian that is older than you in the faith. The intention of this relationship is to aid the one above: an unbroken communion with Jesus.
Discipleship that will permanently changed your life like John's testimony in this epistle, must have three levels of assimilation. The three levels of proper assimilation that will cause a lasting change in your during discipleship are:
(1) Auditory
(2) Visual
(3) Kinesthetic
We will make a little effort to discuss each subheading.
(1) AUDITORY: Either directly through His word or through human discipler or any other means He may choose, you must keep hearing Jesus. It is difficult to obey instructions you do not have the opportunity to hear. You need to also ask the Holy Spirit to train your ears in hearing the Lord.
(2) VISUAL: It is also important you see Jesus in whatever situation He decide to reveal Himself to you. Your eyes of understanding must be open all the times.
(3) KINESTHETIC: The last but not the least is to be actively engaged with Him in practical sessions that will transform your character. He can arrange these experiences using anyone and anything, but the primary purpose is to reveal Himself to you and help you grow in your knowledge of Him.
I am persuaded that these three levels must be properly engaged in order to bring you into the fullness of Christ.
ACTION PLAN: Take a stock of your discipleship experience in the past, how has it been? Can you say that you are growing? The pathway to the fruitfulness God has ordained for 2022 and beyond is discipleship. If you are still playing with sin, ask God to forgive you because a sinner cannot be discipled into the life of Christ. If you are born again, make all necessary effort to become a disciple of Jesus in deed.
PRAYER: Father, arrange a discipler for me that will be instrumental to my entering into your purpose in life.
