ask the most important questions.
Like if we are unmarried, we are called singles.
But if we are married, we dont people call us doubles?

Also, why is it, if you going out with someone, unmarried, its called dating
But if you going out with someone, and are married, its not called mating?

Why is it people call their offspring kids?
Why dont christians call their offspring lambs?

And other vexing questions....

There are some who believe that the rootword of the word "kid" is also the rootword of the word "child". The old Germanic word for an orphanage is Childe-haus. Ch in old English is sometimes pronounced as "k". Church=Kirk. They eventually dropped the "l" from child and it became "Chide", then "Kide", eventually "Kid".

Cool. I learned a lot about word and name origins from doing genealogy.
Oh my dad likes that. I have forefathers from Surinam, Jewish, he likes to figure it all out. I have one forefather who rebuked a storm.

What was the best thing before sliced bread? Having teeth

How young can you die of old age? Google Hutchinson–Gilford progeria syndrome

Before they invented drawing boards, what did they go back to? Clay tablets

What if there were no hypothetical situations? Then they would be actual situations.

Hope this helps. lol

Why do we still say "hang-up" the phone?

Why do we say roll-up the window?

Probably for the same reason we still call it "sunset".

Because the original phones had a small hook upon which you "hung" the earpiece.

There are two schools of thought on your second question. 1. Early cars had a small set of rollers which were used to raise or lower the window. 2. Before glass became cheap enough for regular people, people often used oil cloth or skins during the winter as protection. During warmer months, those cloths or skins were "rolled up" and stored.

Sunset came from a time when man thought the sun was carried across the sky, sometimes in a golden chariot. The 'gods" would lift, or raise, the sun in the morning and "set" it at night.

Why...do some people wear socks with sandals?
Why do women wear high heels?
Why do men shave?

Why do adults still drink milk?

Found mostly among older people, socks help keep their feet warm because of poor blood circulation.

Fashion and attraction. Women believe high heels make their calves look better and thus more attractive (more toned/healthier) when seeking a potential mate.

Cleanliness. Old food in a moustache or beard is unappealing.

Same reason they drink beer. Before modern methods of purification, milk and beer were the safest things to drink in northern Europe. Wine was popular in warmer climates.
