I really like your post, especially the prayer bit .. I just disagree on the actual intentions of Naomi and Ruth, but that's something for another day :) !

Laying at his feet was an act of supplication. The modern equivalent would be kneeling. She demonstrated the depth of her yielding in her words to Naomi. She vowed to remain at her side no matter what. She didn't need to seduce him. The magnitude of her sacrifice proceeded her.

Consider the reality of a woman going by foot to another place without an escort. Then view the same scenario with Naomi in mind. Imagine her vulnerability and what could happen to someone in her position. Ruth forgoes the possibility of marriage to accompany her.

No one has greater love [nor stronger commitment] than to lay down his own life for his friends.

Her story epitomizes love and fealty. She's a surrendered woman and future bride. She never left that place in spite of his passing. And her willingness to serve another is evident. Why would he deny her?

The bible expresses her worthiness in this statement:

For your daughter-in-law, who loves you and is better to you than seven sons.

"The number 7 is the foundation of God's word. It derives much of its meaning from being tied directly to creation and symbolizes completeness and perfection (both physical and spiritual)."
