I'm curious about something, mostly because I was shocked by the response of my own family members about this.

If a family member or friend talks about divorcing their spouse, or is being divorced by their spouse...

Do you become supportive of saving the marriage, or do you become supportive for them to divorce?

(Assume there is no spousal abuse.)

no abuse, no adultery, no divorce...

I'm all for saving a marriage...after seeing my own come back through God's intervention, I can say that there isn't anything that God's grace, mercy and love cannot heal...

Of course...that's just my opinion....

Saving the marriage. No doubt.

Look, as wonderful as my 15 years of marriage has been, there were a few times (thankfully very short) when I wondered if I'd made a mistake. Had my wife and I not been committed to marriage, it's possible I'd have made a horrible mistake and left. But before we got married we understood and agreed we'd not quit and we'd work through any problems. And we did.

Even in the case of abuse I don't necassarily support divorce. Maybe a lot of time apart and lots of prayer and lots of counseling, but always working towards a solution. Sometimes there is one and sometimes there isn't. God will work out the details. However, I am by no means saying that you should sit around and be a beaten doormat if you are being abused.

Marriage is not easy. I have learned the hard way over the past year that marriage is not sunshine and roses and kissing under the stars. It takes a lot of work and more than once I have thought about giving up. Considering the fact that my husband can be a bit mean and inconsiderate, my friends and family constantly push for divorce. A lot of my family sees no problem with two and three marriages in a lifetime. The Bible says (and I am never good at finding exact verses) that if one is willing to stay in the marriage, you should stay. Sometimes your spouse doesn't want to be there at all and if that is the case, pray. If they still leave then I guess it was God's will. I just can't imagine encouraging divorce, though.

I believe that God is very much in favor of marriage. I believe that marriage should be honored and faught for and worked for. If there is no adultry or abuse, a marriage should be faught for and prayed for. Marriage is a holy union. This is my opinion.
