It's interesting to see what topics are important to other Christians (and other people, if looking at the website as a whole). There's a big chance to find out about something you haven't been thinking a lot of, or even get challenged on things you knew - or thought that you knew... What about yourself? :)

Same here. Learning about my own beliefs as wells as those of others.
Here I can learn not only about the official positions of all the different established churches, but also about all the different beliefs of the members of those churches... as well as those of the members of those congregations.
Both are interesting, the people & their beliefs.

Can't say I have learned anything I didn't already know, other than little things. Like the general view people have of me being a heretic hahahaha. But nah I like telling my beliefs, it's my lifes goal to do just that. I don't find value anywhere else and I feel empty if I pursue anything else. Maybe this isn't a good place for that, but for the time being, it strengthens my own beliefs while looking at the problems others see in my own beliefs. I then can focus on those areas. At first I was happy to tell others, but you realize people hate your beliefs after that. So it can be scary if you don't believe 100% and say something contrary to what everyone else believes. But with people telling me I am wrong, and bringing up their reasonings for, I actually found the opposite effect. That my faith has risen to unwavering, which is really cool you know. To have no doubt at all... I wonder how many people can say that to God "I have a unwavering faith"

I come to GT mostly for the train wreck aspect, but also in the hope that there might be a sane and interesting discussion without everyone getting their panties in a bunch. Those come around every now and then, just enough to keep me coming back... sort of like a casino.

I come to CF largely because it is extremely versatile. It has something for everyone, as well as something for just about any mood I might be in. I like that it has "safe houses" where like-minded people can have discussions about their own beliefs without being harassed by non-like-minded people. It seems like a microcosm of real-world christianity. There's also plenty to discuss that has nothing to do with theology, and many of those subforums can be pretty interesting.

Don't remember seeing you here. You must lurk a lot.

I came here orignially for information and got hooked on defending the truth. It has become an addiction. I'll cool off some for the nice weather and be full force when the days are short and cold. Just to much to do.

Originally, I came here hoping to be edified by likeminded believers and also to hopefully find the answers to some things which have puzzled me for years in the scriptures.

Now?

Quite frankly, I view this place primarily as a mission field...

I sympathize, but we must avoid "mission creep" or we risk becoming "mission creeps".:sorry:

Just curious is all. Thanks for any response.

I have probably 14,000 + posts in GT, over 6+ years....

I have two reasons:

1) To learn. What a GREAT opportunity to gather with other brothers and sisters in Christ, including those with other perspectives! We have an opportunity to learn these perspectives not from textbooks (which are nearly always biased, for or against) but right from the believer! Misconceptions can be dismissed, understanding advanced. I could post at a Lutheran website where all will agree with me, but being unchallenged, with nothing new presented - IMO that's not a way to grow and learn.

2. To extend MUTUAL understanding. A lot of my misunderstandings have been corrected, and I HOPE my posts have helped others correct misunderstandings. I don't care if people AGREE with positions (especially mine - I don't have the ego to think people should agree with me) but, if at the end of the day, we can correctly say "I now better understand that POV" then it was all worth while.

Thank you!

Pax

I would say that is also my view in a nutshell  :amen:
Ditto that! For a young guy he has a pretty good handle on many foundational matters.

Rick:

As much as I appreciate your play on words, unless I'm mistaken, "mission creep" has to do with someone expanding his/her original intentions AFTER their original intentions have already been met/fulfilled. Such is not even close to the case with my original intentions here. IOW, far from being edified and far from finding answers to things which have puzzled me for years, I've primarily been grieved by what I've witnessed in this place. As such, I've decided to assess the problem and deal with it at its root cause (s). If such a course of action makes me appear "creepy" in other people's eyes, then so be it.

Let no man despise your youth comes to mind here:thumbsup: and yes thats one of those things that impresses me the grace of God being evident in just that way too. I knew a sister (just two years old in the Lord) once, and much the same blew my mind with the grace given her, and God blessed me through her, what a great God, and so I thanked God for her because I was a partaker of her grace and a partaker of her blessing, and thats so wonderful when that happens.

You can tell you who you receive a benefit from and they dont have to be perfect in knowledge to benefit you either, because I know Im not perfect (by any means) not even in knowledge, I know only "in part". And I try to keep that in perspective in respects to all others (even though) there might be some who think they "know it all".

But I do recieve benefit from others here, but moreso through a handful I tend to be inclined to (and because they have added to my learning) consistently (again and again) which is great  rare but great, their due dilgence and growth in Christ works for my own edification in Christ and I do appreciate these brothers and sister, I truly do.

You as well squint.

And really, theres a diversity in the body, one I appreciate and embrace, I didnt always see it but overtime (being here) there really are a few that stand out who might take on "this" (over here) or "that" (over there) and through whom I cannot deny receiving a benefit. The first thing that stands out with most of those I am drawn to is their kindness, and I'll tell you, a kind way (overall) makes this place (or any place) more tolerable because theres not alot of that in alot of circles unfortunately. Which really make them a sight for sore eyes. I dont know, maybe stars shine the brightest (and are the most visible) when they have the darkest backdrops or something, I just dont know.

I know there are more troll types (and various others) but there are definately those (as few as they seem to be) who have been around for awhile and have really been a blessing to me.

Just as you have as well squint

Space monkeys are creepier than anything at GT, that's for sure.
That Wizard of Ox show also has a apocalyptic feel to it too, which I never really appreciated, especially when I was a kid watching them for the first time.
