Hi everyone!

Could somebody please explain Hebrews 10:26 to me? What is the 'truth' that is spoken of? And does this mean that if one sins after receiving knowledge of this truth, then one cannot be forgiven?
The Truth is the knowledge of who Christ is, and what He does for us. This site elaborates further http://www.gotquestions.org/Hebrews-10-26.html
I remember there is only one sin that cannot be forgiven. That is blasphemy against the Holy Spirit.

Go back to the entrance exam for being a meat Christian instead of a milk Christian in 6:1-2. The entire rest of Hebrews is about meat Christians. The answer is there. Once you explain why it is in that particular order and why it says "baptisms" (plural), and you understand why the topic for meat Christians is Melchizedek, this will be clear. I do not remember the entire teaching, but I think I still have it on my website. The bottom line is that meat Christianity is knowing who Christ is, and who you become when He lives fully inside you. This is answer to your question. The answer to the other part is in 6:6. There are certain decisions you can make that are so soul redirecting, that it is next to impossible to repent from.

Rule #1: Read the context. (Read the passages around that verse)
Rule #2: Stick to a literal understanding.
Anyone who willfully walks away from Jesus is not elect. That's the direct teaching. But you know, we have to ask ourselves if that person that walks away ever really knew him. Hebrews 6:4-6 actually says that a person can be completely devoted to Jesus and still throw it all away.

No, it means we must pray without ceasing and repent continuously, knowing we will be forgiven - communication with our Lord Jesus and our Heavenly Father is what God our Father wants:

Heb 4:14 ¶ Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession.

copyChkboxOff.gif
Heb 4:15 For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as [we are, yet] without sin.

copyChkboxOff.gif
Heb 4:16 Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.

It is a description of the outward signs of a certain type of person who has rejected God. "Knowledge of the truth" could be understood as having heard and understood the gospel, "deliberately keep on sinning" can be understood as a sign that a person chose to reject the gospel. If we understand "no sacrifice for sins is left" as "there is no other way to be saved" and hence "can no longer be saved," then the type of person is one who genuinely believed that the gospel is true, but chose to reject God, anyway.

It is a description of something very close to the kind of rejection that Satan had for God. He knew God was real, but rejected him anyway. His rejection was not by faith, it was by sight. It is perhaps more clear in this other Hebrews passage:

It is impossible for those who have once been enlightened, who have tasted the heavenly gift, who have shared in the Holy Spirit, who have tasted the goodness of the word of God and the powers of the coming age, if they fall away, to be brought back to repentance, because to their loss they are crucifying the Son of God all over again and subjecting him to public disgrace. (Hebrews 6:4-6, 1984 NIV)

Hi everyone!

Could somebody please explain Hebrews 10:26 to me? What is the 'truth' that is spoken of? And does this mean that if one sins after receiving knowledge of this truth, then one cannot be forgiven?

The Book of Hebrews & Hebrews 10:26

The main theme throughout the book of Hebrews is BETTER.

Christ is better: Better then angels, because they worship the Christ. Better then Moses, because He created Him. Better then the Aaronic priesthood, because Christ's sin sacrifice is once for all time. Better then the law, because Christ mediates a better covenant.

These Jews who were having a hard time making a break from total indoctrination in a legalistic religion. Judaism's, Temple worship and the daily sacrifices. Many are reversing course and choose to continue in their religion to avoid persecution and often being totally ostracized.

Hebrews 10:
"""Better Sacrifice""" is the context in the following:
Verse's: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 11, 12.

"""New Better Covenant""" is the context in:
Verse's: 9, 10, 14, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21.

In 18 of the first 21 verses context is:

"""BETTER SACRIFICE or NEW BETTER COVENANT"""

Verses 7, 13 & 15 are unrelated to salvation as well as:
Verses 22, 23, 25 & 25

Hebrews 10:26 Willfull Rejection, Parsed:

Hebrews 10:26 For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins,

(The only sacrifice for SIN is: Placing your Faith in Christ's Sin Atoning Death Burial & Resurrection. If WE/ANYONE rejects this sacrifice I. E. UNBELIEF! There is NOTHING ELSE that can save a person from: The Coming Judgment God will impose for mankind's sin and rebellion against their Creator.

The Willful Sin Mentioned Here: Is after hearing & understanding the truth found, in Christ's Sin Atoning Death Burial & Resurrection. These legalistic indoctrinated Jew were walking away from the BETTER covenant to avoid persecution.

Hebrews 10:29 "Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy (common) thing and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace?"

(God’s wrath will be poured out on those who have walked under foot """REJECTED""" Gods offered grace found in Christ's Sin Atoning Sacrifice of Christ)

Colossians 2:13 And you, being dead in your sins and the in-circumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses;
(THAT'S """ALL""" YOUR SINS """ALL""")

14 Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross;
("""ALL""" THE BELIEVERS SINS WERE NAILED TO THE CROSS)

Romans 3:25 Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God;

(PROPITIATION MEANS TO MAKE RECONCILIATION. BY PLACING OUR FAITH IN THE SIN ATONING DEATH, BURIAL & RESURRECTION OF THE LORD JESUS CHRIST. A SOVEREIGN GOD DECLARE'S US TO BE RIGHTEOUS. WE BECOME RIGHTEOUS BY THE GRACE OF GOD & OUR FAITH IN THE WORK OF CHRIST. """NOT""" THRU OUR OWN WORKS!)

Romans 4:5 But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness.
(IT'S THRU FAITH THE UNGODLY ARE JUSTIFIED! NOT THRU WORKS)

1 John 2:2 Jesus Christ the righteous: is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.
(AGAIN, PROPITIATION MEANS TO MAKE RECONCILIATION)

Titus 2:14 Jesus Christ gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity,
(THE BELIEVERS FAITH IN JESUS PAYMENT REDEEMS US FROM """ALL""" OF OUR SINS """ALL"""!)

Ephesians 1:7 In Jesus Christ we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins,
(BELIEVERS HAVE "RIGHT NOW! PRESENT TENSE" REDEMPTION & FORGIVNES OF OUR SINS. "SINS IS PURAL!")

Revelations 1:5 Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, and the first begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the earth. Unto Jesus Christ that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood,
(JESUS (not our works) WASHED AWAY OUR SINS. WHEN WE PLACED OUR FAITH IN HIS DEATH, BURIAL & RESURRECTION.

New Covenant:
Hebrews 8:12 I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more
(AND THEIR "SINS" I WILL REMEMBER NO MORE!)

BY PLACING OUR FAITH IN THE SIN ATONING DEATH, BURIAL & RESURRECTION OF THE LORD JESUS CHRIST. A SOVEREIHN GOD DECLARE'S US TO BE RIGHTEOUS. WE BECOME RIGHTEOUS BY THE GRACE OF GOD & OUR FAITH IN THE WORK OF CHRIST. """NOT""" THRU OUR OWN WORKS!

A tie-in from 1 John 5 & Heb 10:26 Sin Unto Death

1 John 5
The first thing to note is the context. This major topic from 5:13-18 is prayer. We are given in verses 13-15 that God hears and responds to our prayers. The key word is "anything." Then John remembers there is an exception: praying for a disobedient, sinning brother or sister in Christ. What to do? How do we pray for that one? Here is the sequence we must keep in mind for such a one as we pray.

First of all, the Apostle John tells us that there is a sin not leading to death (physical). In verse 16, he tells us that it is possible for Christians to fall into this sin not leading to death. [See also 1 John 2:1-2, the ideal is to "sin not." But if anyone sins (and we will), we have an Advocate, a defense attorney (The Lord Jesus Christ).

When Christians observe disobedience in brothers and sisters, they are to pray for him/her (16b). As a result of these prayers, God may choose to preserve, prolong, extend the person's physical life (not eternal life, since that life is determined by one's personal faith decision).

This intercession is effective only in the case of sin not leading to death (16c). That is, the person has not reached the end limits of God's patience and grace (His "last straw"). See also v. 17 where John says, "All unrighteousness is sin, but there is sin which is not unto (physical) death."

Secondly, there is a sin which results in physical death - the sin unto death (v. 16d). This is the death of a believer characterized by persistent, willful sinning (Heb 10:26) in which "the flesh" is destroyed (PHYSICAL DEATH)

1 Cor. 5:1-5 ""so that the spirit might be saved.""

1 Cor 5:1 SO THAT THE SPIRIT MIGHT BE SAVED!

These scriptures speak to physical death. Not loss of one's eternal salvation!

Finally, the loss of salvation is impossible (Jn 6:37,39, 10:28, Rom 8:38-39, Heb 13:5) Maranatha
