It's the sort of social unreset I would expect to see in a surreal or gothic movie rather than the streets of Paris. I read that Hitler used to go to the prisons, speaking with disenfranchised and underprivileged youths. He was the lightening rod that converted that deep rage into extreme loyalty. He nearly won the war, too. So yes take notice.

So what will be the first excuses? Poverty? Racism? Islamophobia?

Racism actually...they think...think it was sparked by the electrocution of two youths who were hiding out in a substation because they *thought* the police were chasing them.

I heard about this on the radio earlier this week.

The rioters are overwhelmingly immigrants from Muslim nations. This is what happens when you allow unrestricted immigration. The chickens are coming home to roost.

The french cops obviously can't handle the situation. Time to call in the Foreign Legion.

You must be mistaken. I've been told Muslims are peaceful people.

*smacks head*

I'll repeat something I read in another thread. Ok if Islam is the problem, why are we protecting Muslims in Iraq? Why not just get out of there and let them kill eachother instead of us? Not all muslims are bad people. But neither is Islam a fundamentally bad religion. Nothing justifies what is being done but I agree that a poor, ostracized, isolated minority group is breeding ground for violent response. Notice I didn't excuse it or feel sorry for them, I don't. I'm simply stating facts.

Have you read the Bible? The death penalty was mandated by the God of Israel for just about anything you did wrong. Of course if you're talking about Jesus then the death penalty was never warranted for anything. Quite a dichotomy of perspective there. Almost makes me thing the two were not related! Anyways who cares rioters need to be shot dead to keep civil order.

Waves of arson attacks hit Paris suburbs as unrest enters
second week

Small, mobile groups of youths torched hundreds more
cars near Paris on Friday, as the violence and arson attacks
that have shaken the capital's suburbs for a week spread
to other French towns.

At least 520 cars were torched overnight in the Paris
region, an increase from previous nights, the Interior Ministry said...

...worst-hit Seine-Saint-Denis suburb northeast of Paris.
....."very numerous small and highly mobile groups,"
with arson attacks that destroyed 187 vehicles and five
buildings, including three sprawling warehouses.

Car torchings are a daily fact of life in France's tough
suburbs, and thousands are burned each month, police say.

Police intelligence has recorded nearly 70,000 incidents of urban violence this year, including attacks on police and rescue services,
arson attacks, throwing projectiles, gang clashes, joy-riding
and destroying property, the newspaper Le Monde reported.

The unrest has laid bare discontent simmering in France's
poor suburbs, some of them ghettos that have proven fertile terrain
for Islamic extremists and criminal activity.

A commuter train line linking Paris to Charles de Gaulle airport northeast of
the capital was still running a scaled-back service Friday
after two trains were targeted Wednesday night.
The SNCF train authority said one in five trains was running
and conductors of night trains were demanding onboard security.

A bus was attacked Wednesday night in the northeastern suburb
of Sevran, leaving a disabled female passenger severely burned,
police and judicial officials said.

Youths fired buckshot at riot police vehicles in Neuilly-sur-Marne, east of
Paris, and a group of 30 to 40 harassed police near a synagogue
in Stains to the north, where a city bus was torched and a school classroom partially burned,
Cordet said.

In Trappes, to the west, 27 buses were incinerated. But the unrest was
scaled-back from the sometimes ferocious rioting of previous nights
when live bullets were fired at police and firefighters without causing
injuries.

Struck me as guerilla attacks against a country. Sounds organized, with specific targets to incapacitate civilian population and a testing of limits to which the politically correct will tolerate. Just my opinion, of course.

Stupidity?

Why not just get out of there and let them kill eachother instead of us?
Works for me. I'd lik to see the gigabucks we're spending there used for something, nay, anything, else. The Right says we can't afford national health insurance, but I wonder how long we could have funded it using the thousands of millions of dollars we've thrown away blowing stuff up in Iraq.

Not all muslims are bad people.
True.

But neither is Islam a fundamentally bad religion.
Untrue. By their fruits you will know them. The "fruits" of Islam have been bloodshed and terror from day 1.
