Those were the first mentions of clean and unclean animals. There were no definitions until Moses (Leviticus 11). Probably, only clean animals were allowed to be offered as sacrifices. If Moses had penned those words in Gen, he probably used the definitions in Lev.1 The Lord then said to Noah, “Go into the ark, you and your whole family, because I have found you righteous in this generation. 2 Take with you seven pairs of every kind of clean animal, a male and its mate, and one pair of every kind of unclean animal, a male and its mate,
Genesis 9:
God gave Noah clean animals for food. That's probably what Moses meant.3 Everything that lives and moves about will be food for you. Just as I gave you the green plants, I now give you everything.
