Martyrdom is answer to decay in Church and world, says Cardinal Raymond L. Burke.

When Catholics approach Cardinal Raymond L. Burke to express their concerns about evidence of decay in society and the Church, he urges them to “deepen their understanding of the constant teaching and discipline of the Church” and to make their voices heard by Church leaders.

In a May 7 talk addressing the “Rome Life Forum” sponsored by the group Voice of the Family, Cardinal Burke, patron of the Order of Malta, acknowledged concerns about possible confusion in the Church on fundamental dogmatic and moral truths, and said bishops need to “understand the urgent need to announce again with clarity and courage the truths of the faith.” He added that faithful Christians should be prepared for martyrdom out of love for Christ and His Church, and that martyrdom can take one of several different forms.

It is wonderful to see Cardinal Burke praising our 20th century martyrs for the faith--Archbishop Oscar Romero, the four female Maryknoll missionaries, the Central American Jesuit martyrs--all of whom died supporting social justice in Central America.

I realize that they may not have been the people he was thinking of, and he may even dismiss them as "liberation theologians," but I can't think of a better example to illustrate his words.

R u ready to step up Mea???
Be persecuted for the name of Christ both fellow catholics, Christians, colleges, neighbours, your boss, your local bishop, the man referred to as the pope, your wife, your children, your parents and the list goes on and on...

R u up for that Mea?
It may be that we need the mark of the beast in order to pay at the supermarket.
Resisting this antichrist may mean that we starve in the end.

We may eventually die for our faith.
We will face ridicule.

Prayers said that we'll be given the grace to resist Lucifer and be willing to suffer for our Lord.

You know that your hatred towards this fine Cardinal only helps making his point right?

It's best described as a validation of his concerns ...

I complimented Cardinal Burke for praising 20th century martyrs like Archbishop Romero and the Maryknoll and Jesuit martyrs in Central America.

Surely no one could read his remarks without thinking of Archbishop Romero or the Maryknoll and Jesuit martyrs. They are truly people who suffered persecution for justice' sake, and it is wonderful to see them getting credit from Cardinal Burke.

How did it come to this in western civilisation eh? Christendom glorious christendom reduced to ashes the churches decimated empty pews and closed down churches rampant athiesm materialism greed malice debauchery and vice of all kinds christianity mocked even on the cusp of for all practical purposes outlawed. Many reasons over the years and we ourselves sholder much of the responsiblity due to our sins the abuses of the church but i think hisorically it can be traced back to the reformation the rejection of the authority of catholicism. Nations gave up their catholic identity became protestant and slowley all christian principles have erroded... no longer catholic, no longer protestant, no longer christian but secualr athiest.

In the east a similar thing with the great schism no longer catholic no longer orthodox no longer christian but islamic

Christendom reduced to a few square miles in a populace city the dark world encroaching upon its doorstep sourounded and infiltrated by her enemies... vatican hill is fast becoming the new golgotha where the mystical body of christ will once again be crucified and we along with her.

Truly we are living in a time of increasing persecution of the Church, even here in the United States. Pope Francis has spoken of a "polite persecution" to paraphrase him. See here: http://www.catholicnewsagency.com/n...e-a-polite-disguise-pope-francis-warns-11210/

Pope Francis has also said that we must be ready for persecution. http://www.catholicnewsagency.com/n...o-be-martyrs-even-in-the-little-things-67893/

I have heard that there have been more martyrs for the Church in the past 100 years than in any other time in history. Let us not lose hope though. Remember, the blood of martyrs is the seed of the Church. Tertullian said that in his work called "Apologeticus".

We can expect the persecution to increase. After all, we are living in the dictatorship of relativism as Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI said.

It should be expected that there will be more martyrs today than at any other time. - there are both more Christians available for martyring than ever before and there are more non-Christians capable of extreme persecution than ever before.

Martyrdom would be a blessing. Death is inevitable and there is no better way to die.

For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will find it. (Matthew 16:25)

I hope we would continue to think so outside of our safe bobble and the forums.

Facing a angry mob is quite different from our fairytale imagination I'm afraid :(

It's all to easy to be all heroic when we're sitting safe in the US or Europe.

Hopefully we'll get the courage to die for Christ when persecution hit our boarders.
