To Be 'Blessed'

I was wondering, and decided to ask the catholics on CF about being blessed by priests/churchmen; first of all, how is someone blessed? second, can anyone bless another person, or can only priests/clergy perfom it? thanks!

These are very good questions, Saruman.

1) Someone is usually blessed in the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit. And additional prayer is often said. Sometimes water is used.

2) One person can bless another (ask some of the moms on here about a Mother's Blessing), but most blessings are done by priests.

thanks for clearing that up for me....i was just wondering...also, are you blessing someone when you make the sign of the cross on someone's forehead? i've seen it in some movies before.
