An obese person in their 60's who's a few weeks away from a heart attack doesn't have the luxury of waiting 2 years to reap the benefits of a drastic diet change, nor do they have the option of strenuous exercise at the gym (as that itself could cause a heart attack for a person in their situation)
True but they also shouldn't expect irresponsibility to vanish with the flick of a pill. Except for the genetically born destined to be hefty where even a pill won't work, most reap what they have spent decades sowing with poor eating habits. Sad but true. People fuss about this and expect a quick turn around but then why are no one questioning the rise in the last month of unexpected deaths to have soared to 30% higher than expected in all age groups? You'd think that would be large on the minds of everyone, but no the media and others focus on salvaging a life of poor eating choices, and worse yet ignore it is the food industry that has caused it. Create a problem then profit from not a cure or a change to the system, but a treatment. Snake oil.

Medical intervention based upon the knowledge of how bodies work is quite capable of extending lives.

Which is why people are living longer despite the rise in sedentary lifestyles.

Snake oil is a placebo, it doesn't actually work in any way.

It is certainly possible for this trend to reverse if people are living such bad lifestyles that medical science can not compensate of course, but it doesn't mean that that medicine doesn't work as intended.

It's like ordering a 3 patty burger with cheese and bacon and a diet drink
People should indeed be aware that THAT doesn't work.

To your point, it is always better to deal with peoples lifestyles and mental health issues that cause health problems but that is a far cry from saying blood pressure medication is snake oil.

I didn' say that... but there are other options for even high BP.

Sorry, I was just pointing out the two extremes of the concept we were discussing. I didn't mean to attribute that to you.

More like a stray extra thought based upon the reply before it.
