did you take your child for swimming lessons? if so...at what age...

Yes. We started our son at age 3.
He has done wel and is now a fairly competent swimmer at age 5.

We have a pool at home. His brother - age 2 will probably start getting water wise this summer (Sept) at age 2 1/2.

My daughter taught herself. When I was a child I took swimming lessons when I was 7, but the kids in my class were about 5 or so. I was the oldest one.

We're not doing any formal lessons, though I do try to help my daughter learn how to swim. She fell into the swimming pool after I told her to stay away from the edge, and I had to jump in after her. Yeah, I can see the value of knowing how to keep water out of one's lungs. lol I know that I had the most fun and the easiest learning experience though when I was young and we were just playing in the pool. We didn't even know that we were learning at the time. It's amazing how that works. lol

Yes, my children both started at age 3. My oldest is 7.5 and quite and accomplished swimmer. My primary reason was to give them the opportunity to spend time with a "class" and learn to take instruction from a teacher. Also, I think it boosts their self-confidence to learn a skill and find they can succeed. Swimming is a good skill for little children, IMO, because it wears them out!! LOL.
