Psalm 119:165 Great peace have those who love Your law,
And nothing causes them to stumble. (they have no stumbling block).
To have the great peace found in Christ, we must be free from all stumbling blocks.
Romans 8:1 There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus,
who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit.
The love of God's Word teaches the disciple of Christ that there are three stumbling
blocks that must be overcome by walking in the Spirit. Ones placed by others that
we overcome in humility, ones we place before others, which we avoid by obedience
to the Spirit and those we allow to come before us by the idols of this world, which
are overcome by the love of God's Law, and in full submission to the Spirit of Christ.
This requires the obedience of Christ.
1 John 2:
3 Now by this we know that we know Him, if we keep His commandments.
4 He who says, “I know Him,” and does not keep His commandments, is a liar,
and the truth is not in him.
5 But whoever keeps His word, truly the love of God is perfected in him.
By this we know that we are in Him.
6 He who says he abides in Him ought himself also to walk just as He walked.
If we walk in Christlike humility, we do not take offense from others
as the one who walks in the flesh inevitably will.
Our shared commitment is to not offend,
while the more mature brother or sister is slow to take offense.
This requires the humility of Christ
Galatians 6:
1 Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual,
restore such an one in the spirit of meekness;
considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted.
2 Bear ye one another's burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.
3 For if a man think himself to be something,
when he is nothing, he deceives himself.
The disciple cannot stumble on any Word of Christ by disobedience
1 Peter 2:
6 Wherefore also it is contained in the scripture, Behold, I lay in Sion a chief corner stone,
elect, precious: and he that believes in him shall not be confounded.
7 Unto you therefore which believe he is precious: but unto them which be disobedient,
the stone which the builders disallowed, the same is made the head of the corner,
8 And a stone of stumbling, and a rock of offence, even to them which stumble at the word,
being disobedient: where unto also they were appointed.
Fellowship in the Spirit makes our faith always effectual toward the brethren.
Romans 14:
21 It is good neither to eat meat nor drink wine nor do anything by which
your brother stumbles or is offended or is made weak.
22 Do you have faith? Have it to yourself before God.
Happy is he who does not condemn himself in what he approves.
In many ways, Christ is the ultimate offense, which requires our full submission.
Luke 7:23 And blessed is he who is not offended because of Me.
The Holy Spirit can only perfect those fully committed to His perfection.
Acts 24:16 This being so, I myself always strive
to have a conscience without offense toward God and men.
And nothing causes them to stumble. (they have no stumbling block).
To have the great peace found in Christ, we must be free from all stumbling blocks.
